My mom needs cardiac ablation--anyone have it done? |
|
She's 76 and she's been having atrial flutter, where the heart is beating many beats per minute. As a result, she's had a minor stroke already. She's delaying the ablation until June 15. As I have had 3 angioplasties myself, I tried to tell her it's not as bad as her quadruple bypass which she had 8 years ago. She thinks it's going to be the death of her. Anyone have any experience with it?
What's ironic is that for a year and a half, between 2000-2001, I worked for one of the major companies that manufactures the cardiac ablation catheters. I know how well they're made, and I know a lot of the people who made them. Even that isn't reassuring to my mom.
I've been to the usual online resources, so I know the info involved, but if I had some reassurance from someone who has had the procedure, it would be very helpful.
Thanks.

Don't know anything about it but it sounds like you do. I do know that quadruple bypass surgery was a second lease on life for my mom and she now travels the world. It is wonderful what they can do for the cardiovascular system these days.
So I'm sending hugs and giving you a bump.

We can always use a lot of hugs nowadays. :)
My mom never quite recovered after her bypass. But I blame the doctors because they looked at her complaints after the surgery lightly and dismissed them. Being a diabetic doesn't help, either--there are a lot more problems that can pop up afterward.
We're separated right now by coasts--I wish that we weren't, but to be frank, I couldn't stand another moment in L.A.--the heat was killing me. It seems like my mom just wants to give up, though, and I only hope that she doesn't.

2. I had it for an arrythmia last year |

Very easy procedure. I was in and out the same day. The hardest part is laying on your back for a few hours afterwards. There was no pain or discomfort for me what so ever.

At least I can tell her about one person that found it relatively easy! :)
