I usually just use the little powdered mix, but I'm open to doing a little more work today!

3. I use ground turkey
Edited on Thu May-12-05 11:19 AM by ewagner
Usually use this recipe:

4-5 pieces of white bread
1 egg
1 teaspoon of black pepper
1 teaspoon of poultry seasoning
1/4 teaspoon of NoSalt...salt substitute
1 egg
1 tablespoon of dried parsley flakes
1 pound of ground turkey

Mash the bread and all other ingredients except for the ground turkey in a bowl until it's all blended together and then mix in the ground turkey until it's all smoothly blended together. I usually line a small bread pan with tinfoil and spray it with pam or some other spray-on oil. Bake it in the oven at 350 degrees for an hour.

Makes great sandwiches afterwards too....

on edit: ooops....forgot 1/4 cup of shopped onion......

5. Favorite meat loaf
2 slices white bread broken roughly into cubes
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1/2 chopped onion (size of chop your preference)
1/2 chopped green pepper (same as above)
1/2 cup catsup or tomatoe paste
1 tbspn of Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 Lawree's season salt
1/2 tsp black pepper

Soak bread cubes in milk for about 1/2 hour.
Break up the ground beef with your hands, adding it to bread mixture.
Add the chopped veggies, catsup, worcestshire, salt and pepper.
Mix with hands if you feel so inclined.

Mound mixture into 9 by 12" pan, gently shape into loaf.
Bake at 350 for 1 hour, or until desired "doneness>'

This is especially good cold for sandwiches.

6. if you add a binder/filler, make it bread crumbs, or other FINELY-
crushed bread or crackers -- or even cracker meal. I made a meatloaf once and didn't have bread crumbs so I crumbled up some crackers. The bits were way too big and wound up as soggy grease lumps in the meat loaf.

Enjoy your cooking and your meat loaf!

10. A good meatloaf sauce
1 28 oz can of tomatoes.

1 part white vinegar, 1 part worcestshire sauce, 1 part sugar

Usually it's about 8 tablespoons each but you may want to increase or decrease, just keep the proportions the same.

Salt, pepper and fresh garlic to taste.

Bring to a boil then Simmer as long as you can wait for it and all the tastes will be extra yummy.

Very tasty for meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Beats the shit out of ketchup!

12. For the meat mix. try using Italian Sausage and ground pork......
as well as ground beef. Remove the casing from the sausage, mix with ground beef and ground pork, an egg, ketchup (Or any of the other suggestions) and the herbs you like. I like the taste of tarragon and basil. Comes out really tasty.
