6. Pic's not mine...
Got off of SomethingAwful.com's forums. It's called a Huntsman spider, and they're apparently found in Australia. Just one more reason why I'll never even visit the place...

8. I hear ya!
Any time someone says they want to go to Australia, I give them a list of reasons as long as my arm on why I would never go there...its funny because all the items on my list are creepy crawly things (bugs, snakes, etc) other than that I wouldn't mind that place.

17. I've been there and didn't see any Huntsmans - had a great time...
Edited on Fri May-13-05 05:33 AM by Hissyspit
but the guy I was staying with said he saw one at school while I was there. They are not poisonous, but there ARE poisonous spiders in Australia.

Big spiders, typically, are not poisonous, it's the small to medium ones you have to watch out for.

4. I've seen spiders that big
Here in southwestern Ohio. Wood spiders. I had one in the house that was about that size. I hate big spiders. It had a quick meeting with my shoe.

But that one I think I would jar up and let outside.

12. That reminds me how when I was a kid....
and we were playing darts in the garage. The dartboard would wiggle after a dart hit it and we'd hear a squeak. After two or three darts, we lifted up the dartboard and there behind it was a little bat! Why in the world it wanted to crawl up behind the dartboard I'll never know.

18. I reckon that spider looks fake
However, when I was in India (Navadwip, West Bengal) I did share a bathroom with a spider that was almost that big.

Funnily enough, when you're in a place as way-out-there as India, when you see a spider the size of your fist, you just accept it...

water ones, so I only encounter them when camping right next to a pond or lake.

30. Well the water spider that was in our tent was hand sized. Biggest
I'd ever seen outside of a zoo. *freaking*

Thank heavens our spiders are relatively harmless. Never even seen a brown recluse, which is the only indiginous poisonous spider in Maine.

Not mine, I'm in Florida, the spider pic's from Australia.

However, from what my classmates who live out in the boonies have said, we do get wood spiders that big.
