Does anyone else hate windows xp?
Man I hate Microsoft! My computer crashed and had to reload windows. What a pain in the ass!The disc I borrowed I had to register and I had to jump through hoops to get that done, got it with 1 day remaining.I still get these goofy little pop ups thanks to Microsoft.ARGHHHHH.

1. Yes, and no
It drives me crazy. It takes over my machine sometimes and I have to sit and watch while it churns away. I get blue screens a lot, though they have lessened the longer I've run it on my computer.

But what it does well, it does well.

Since you had to register, I guess you upgraded to it from an older OS? That's the hardest route--too many old devices and software programs can't handle the new system. It works better if you buy it already installed on a new system.

24. No shit! What the Hell was Gates thinking with that turd anyhow?
"Well, I can't really upgrade you Win 98 users to a decent stable OS like I am the NT folks. So instead I'll sell you this total piece of shit and hope you don't notice"

If I had actually PAID for Windows ME, I might have been tempted to drive up to Redmond and beat someone's ass. It's bad enough I had to wipe my drive totally in order to put Win 98 SE back on.

I'd leave it on continuously because It would take 8 hours to boot up at times.

that was a piece of shit.

The original Windows '95 was terrible as well. God it had so many bugs...

Hmmm, then again XP is the only OS by MS that hasn't crashed every few hours. I'll give 'em that much credit.

3. product activation... a bit buggy, that is too.
I switched to Linux.

Requires some thinking, but since when is that bad?

Heck, in the early 1980s people bought Commodore 64s and they're EVEN MORE command-line driven than Linux.

33. Depends on the purpose.

For e-mail and word processing? A $200 box can do that, compared to your $750 mini mac. Yes, $750. The base unit, which looks like a mod hot plate, is %500 but then you need a monitor. The low-end ones are $250. medium-low PCs with LCD monitors cost less and are more powerful than your mac mini. :-(

For video and 3D? You need the $3000 model. Pixar uses LINUX and we've all seen the wonders Pixar makes, so - once again - Mac is rendering itself extinct. :-(

I do keep forgetting about ease of use. But I'm no tactical advisor, I'm not supposed to know everything.

Okay, $200 box - I was thinking a standalone item. For a PC, it'd be about $500 with LCD monitor. Still better than the hot plate.

Edited on Sat May-14-05 06:22 PM by Crazy Guggenheim
I've only had four crashes! It's true, they want it registered. There is one thing about it. It is more suseptable to viruses - I think - so make sure you have have AV and a Firewall always running on it! Also run a three spyware detectors on the system even though it's a fresh install! Get the updates from windows update! If you have any questions about updates - GET THEM - PM me.

10. Besides a catastrophic failure that was partly due to me being an idiot
I've never actually crashed my XP. AND when I first got it, I pushed it hard, really really hard.

Like opening up Quake3, then 3D studio Max with 4 more OpenGl windows, then Photoshop, then Flash, then Dreameaver, and just as I set off an intensive filter in Pshop I alt-tabbed back into Quake3 and it was slow but it worked.

8. I had a similar problem, after I tried to uninstall Service Pack 2. I did
have a similar problem with activation, having to call them and all ,but I stated my case and they rattled off about a thousand letters and numbers, and I was golden.

There are no perfect Operating Systems, and Windows provides me the Operating System required to run the applications I need to run without any hardware that's only available from one manufacturer. I like being able to replace the components of my computer as I please. My next upgrade will be swapping out the motherboard and CPU for a 64 bit version, and Windows XP probably won't even notice.

If you hate XP so much download a linux package.

If not that, then send all the ME users a letter of apology personally signed (and no Rummy stamping) by Bill Gates and Bill Palmer.

Light years better than any of their previous releases. Just buy yourself a hardware firewall/router, AV software, and use Firefox. Piece of crap software may crash periodically, but Windows will be OK.

34. Check out the Norton utilities. There's an executable called
something like CAPP.EXE that can hog all the memory even when nothing is going on. Run the task manger on processes to see what's slowing you down. Also, it doesn't hurt to have about 525 megs of RAM. It's cheap.

23. I used to have a lot of trouble with mine but I learned so much about
PCs because of it. Shit I had to reload 3 months after I got it, repair disk a couple months later, and reloaded on Xmas Eve 2003 and again in Xmas day 2003 (bad prompt. there's a time that you are prompted to "press any key to continue" and you just shouldn't :().
Then I ask for a replacement. they brought one that looked just like mine and said it was exactly the same, but it wasn't. It was filthy, and had 30 GB less than my C drive, which would put me at over half full right now.

I cried myself to sleep that night. I called up the place the next day and they reformatted and brought my old one back. Now, if I have a problem, I either Turn Off my computer or power down, if I have to. I use system restore. And since then, I have only had to do a couple things other than those three options, like deleting the Nvidia thing, and deleting and reinstalling a couple of programs whose .dll applications were :grr:FUBAR:grr: by a :grr:Zone Alarm:grr: update:nuke:.

Edited on Sat May-14-05 07:33 PM by Nomad559
I never have any problems with XP, I haven't had a blue screen In a couple of years. (Due to bad graphic driver)
I sometimes have a third party programs crash, but never a problem with XP.
For a stable running XP system, you need to use stable software drivers and use the latest firmware for all of your hardware. Bad graphics drivers are the most common problems with XP crashing.

I am really beginning to hate my Linux SuSE system, less than a week after a fresh Install of SuSE Pro 9.3, I had to re-Install It because the system froze up on me, why did It freeze up on me?
I forgot to shut down the KsCD player when I shut down the system. When I restarted the system, the KsCD player Icon was In the taskbar, and the system was frozen, I had no cursor or CD drive.

The SuSE version of Firefox Is also crap, I can not make some changes to the browser, like using themes. If I try to use themes, or try downloading files with Firefox, the browser will crash.
