WNYC broadcast of opening night at new Gehry designed concert hall
Edited on Sat Oct-25-03 07:20 PM by Rabrrrrrr
in LA. Sadly, it's called the "Disney Concert Hall", but what the hell. beautiful building, and, according to this recording of the Oct. 23 opening night, INCREDIBLE acoustics!

http://www.wnyc.org/music/articles/21895

Sounds great! opened with Star Spangled banner - boo!

Then a Bach solo violin piece, a partita, played by principal violinist from the organ loft.

Right now (8:17 pm NY time) playing Ives' "Unanswered Question" with musicians scattered around the hall, but again, no one stage.

Next piece will also be one that has no one on stage.

They're offering music to showcase the acoustics of the new hall. Exciting!!!!

And who doesn't just love Ives?

They will conclude with the Rite of Spring.

There are two other concerts that they will broadcast. See web page for details. NOTE: WNYC offers free broadcast over the internet.

2. Did you get to any of them?
I'd like to hear about your impressions if you made it to a concert.

6. No, but my boss made it to one of the galas last weekend
He just told me about the interior space.

Listen, if you can, to the specials on that link I posted above. One of them had a compare/contrast of the acoustics by playing snippets of pieces performed in each venue. Very interesting.

I've been to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, and I will make it to Disney Hall someday soon. I adore classical music in a gorgeous space and I especially like "grown-up, dress-up" events to do it, with a nice dinner beforehand and champagne at intermission. Delightful.
