Actually, I don't think it's really that terrible. Just as long as their voices aren't the same voices that sing in the trailer.... ugh.

22. They are made by a group of highly trained, Oompa Loompa
Loom oompers. These Loom oompers can oomp a loom like nobodys business. The shoes loomed by oompa loompa loom oompers are like loafers, and cost lots of moolah. The moolah received by the oompa loompa loom oompers is used to lovingly look oompa loompaward.

Now....say that 5 times fast.

they strayed so far from the book to make it too kid friendly. Charlie and the Chocolate factory is a dark tale which is a perfect tome for someone like Tim Burton

They did all white spacey science techno for that one in the original movie and in the book as well. The scene where the kid gets digitized through the television.

37. I noticed that too.
I'm very, very pleased with Burton's treatment of one of my favorite books when I was younger (I should find that book and read it again.)
While I don't want to disparage Gene Wilder's movie, I had read the book first and I found the movie to be less than what I expected.
The only thing missing is the goatee. Didn't Willy Wonka have a goatee?

56. Which was very racist, by the way.
They were an African tribe, which WW brought in toto to America to work on his factory. They were described as little more than scavenging animals when in their original home.

Of course, the book was written in a time when that was acceptable.

And I might not even bother with the DVD. From the trailers I've seen, they're messing with one of my sacred childhood films. Gene Wilder was da bomb in the original, and somehow I don't think that Depp will do as well.

52. They're not screwing with Roald Dahl's Wonka
The Gene Wilder movie is not totally true to the book. This movie intends to be. I love the old movie, and will also probably love this one, too.

The ad I saw looked good. They use squirrels in the Veruca Salt scenes, instead of geese, like in the book.

Johnny Depp looks great in costume.

54. I KNOW it's not a remake ... I said that in the thread I started ...
but I read the book once and I saw Wilder's movie about a thousand times ... so obviously it's his Wonka (not the book's Wonka) that's close to my heart. :-)

As I said in a post in the other thread:

It's really funny because there are literally two completely different groups of people: the book lovers and the movie lovers. I have NEVER met anyone who loves both.

It's weird ... I know plenty of people who love certain books and may not like the movie versions as much, but they don't hate them. There are also people who love certain movies and dislike the original books, but again - they don't hate the book, they just prefer the movie.

But with this book/film, there are two extreme camps: movie lovers and book lovers .. and there's no middle ground, LOL! I wonder why that is?
