I saw the movie Crash tonight. |
|
Wow! Powerful movie. Don Cheedle is still a great actor. It had the same kind of structure as Magnolia but the message and themes were different. Lots of Karma involved. I highly recommend it.

1. Also, it beats the hell out of Sideways. |
|
God that movie was a piece of shit. The only movie in my life where full frontal male nudity was the best part for me.

2. You didn't like the Merlot comment?? |
|
That had me on the floor laughing: "I'm not drinking any f---ing Merlot!" I thought that was a riot!
And I am looking forward to seeing Crash, so thanks for the info. :hi:

But overall I don't think it lived up to the hype.

8. I've got an even more overrated film |
|
I'd say that "Lost in Translation" is the most overrated piece of crap I've seen in recent years. WTF was everyone raving about?
Sideways was sorta funny I thought. Overrated? Yes, but I still found it amusing.

10. I know that's right... |
|
"Lost in Translation" was boring and unfunny--and the depiction of Japanese culture insulting. I still like Bill Murray and Scarlett Johanson, though.

3. I saw this tonight too |
|
I thought it was a good movie. I liked how none of the characters were either 100% good or 100% terrible bigots..some of them were more bad than good, others had their moments, but they were all human.

There were some interesting twists in the end with who did good and who didn't.

9. I found it sanctimonious, obvious, and boring |
|
It was sentimental drek posing as gritty reality with weak direction. Writer/director Haggis should watch some directors who know how to handle complex narratives--people like Altman--more assiduously before he unleashes this kind of hyper-didacticism on the public again.
I thought its message about racism was so sanitized it could only be birthed in the suburbs because it was so banal. That said, the acting was frequently quite excellent.
