One week from tomorrow
I will be the mother of a high school graduate.

The mind boggles.

1. Amazing how fast it goes, huh?
There's a line from a Patti Scialfa song that resonates for me:

"Don't you sometimes wonder how it all goes by so fast?
I held you in my fingers - now I hold you in my past."

They're only on loan to us. That's what I keep saying, but they zoom up and away, and all we can do is watch. And remember that it's exactly what we did.

Congratulations.

3. Ohhh...
that brought a little tear to my eye. "I held you in my fingers - now I hold you in my past."

She's moving out in August. I have very mixed feelings about that.

I still have my three-year-old and five-year-old to snuggle with, but she was my first baby. She's no baby anymore.

9. Hi, OldLeftieLawyer...
That's a beautiful line; I also have one: Mothers hold their children's hands awhile, and their hearts forever.

17. Hi, Peggy
It's so true, holding their hands. Those tiny hands that are so quickly busy with other things, away from us.

The new Patti Scialfa CD, by the way, is fantastic. I'm a fan.

6. Thanks!
She's the one who deserves the congrats, though, not me.

Her grades weren't the greatest last year, but this year she has pulled A's every quarter and brought her cumulative GPA up to 3.5 for graduation. She suddenly grew up in the last year, and I'm still amazed at the young adult she has become.

It's a weird feeling. We're having a party for her next Sunday; graduation is the next day.

10. Yes. She wants to go to the University of Minnesota.
She's moving back to Minnesota in August. She'll live with her dad for a while and attend a community college for a year so she can establish residency and get in-state tuition for the U of M.

13. Dear Left Is Write...
It sounds as though your daughter will be going away to college. Please hold onto your heart this coming year...you will most likely miss her more than you think possible. I don't want to depress you, but prepare you...When my oldest daughter went away to college, I thought I would die from a broken heart. It was awful. We all survived, however, and now are stronger in our relationships than ever before...You will need your support system like never before. We here at DU are here for you, also...Call us when you need us, OK?

CONGRATULATIONS!

18. Well, ain't you just the cat's pajamas
Well done, kid, and BIG CONGRATULATIONS!!!

The best is yet to come. Don't waste a minute of it, and don't hesitate to do every dumb thing that comes your way. Better to regret what you did than what you didn't do.

Just be careful.

And, again, WELL DONE!!!!!

16. My youngest graduates
high school a week from tomorrow. I'm looking forward to August when he and his younger brother leave for college and the nest is empty. It truly does seem like yesterday that they were born, but I'm ready for the next stage.
