Just saw Kingdom of Heaven...whatcha think
I thought it was pretty good...started out a little slow but really warmed up as it went along!

2. I liked it
The whole movie looked fantastic, the script was a bit silly in places but engaging enough. Some interesting characters, and some good commentary on the destructive futility of religious fanaticism. Certainly a heck of a lot better than Alexander, for whatever that's worth.

3. Was it even close to accurate, historically speaking?
Or was it full of barely-disguised pro-America rahrah nationalistic fundy Christian bullshit?

4. Just the opposite really
On one side (the good guys) were the Christians who wanted to live peacefully with the muslims...on the other (the bad guys) who were trying to draw Jeruselum into a war with the Muslims.

Very simplistic but conveys the essence of it.

5. That's good to hear!
I was afraid it was gonna be another propaganda movie of American Christians GOOD, Muslims BAD.

You didn't say it specifically, but am I to understand that the bad guys who are wanting Jerusalem to go to war with the Muslims are also Christians?

9. The battle scenes were great
no one can do a fight (Gladiator, Black Hawk Down) like Scott, but the movie itself was just so-so. The romantic sub-plot was weak and Bloom dithered most of the time. The most interesting and developed character was Saladin, he needed more screen time. Two stars.

8. Accurate in the portrayal of Christians and Muslims then
The Crusaders were a blood thirsty bunch. The style was beautiful. Riddly Scott is my favorite director since Blade Runner.

However the story was hard to believe and too choppy. Unlike Gladiator I couldn't believe the story of the man Orlando Bloom acted out.

6. I'd say it was pretty balanced in its portrayal of Christians and Muslims
It certainly didn't strike me as a cheerleading exercise for western aggression. It was actually most harsh (and deservedly so) in its treatment of the fanatics on the Crusader side- particularly those who use religion as a justification for military aggression.
