I could go to Michigan Adventure in Muskegon.... they're owned by the same company now, at least...

I felt bad going to a red state but we were visiting another DUer and attending a festival. So we made it a point to not spend any money outside of the Austin city limits since Austin is a very liberal town

considering either the Badger crossing at Luddington or the Lake Express crossing at Muskegon. A little pricey maybe but looks like there's a fair bit to do on the other side. http://www.ssbadger.com/schedule/schedule.htmlhttp://www.lake-express.com/htmdocs/pricing/index.html

in the Great Smoky Mountains. Fantastic mountain scenery and lots of fun stuff to do. Plus, you can also hop over to Cherokee in North Carolina for gambling, which is not too far away.
Oh, I forgot to mention all the fabulous outlet stores in Pigeon Forge. A shopper's paradise.
On edit: So what if it is a red state? I still had a great time.

11. First real vacation in a couple years, but |
|
I'd kind of like something within range of a full gas tank. I'm thinking hard about Cedar Point, though, just because I like roller coasters and Top Thrill was closed the whole time I was there a couple years back.
As to that, I could do both, since Muskegon isn't really all that far away and the admission fee is very reasonable.

competition. The Canadian dollar has strengthened but is still 80-cents to the greenback. It is like having a whole country at 20% off. Great food, great people and a 2-week long party in the streets. http://www.montrealjazzfest.com/fijm2004/accueil_en.aspfireworks: http://www.internationaldesfeuxloto-quebec.com/en/programmation/Default.asp

Former kalamazoo'er here. My advice is just get out - it doesn't matter which direction you're going - you'll feel better.
If you're driving, I'd head east. Toronto is a nice place to visit, as are the east coast cities (everyone should visit NYC at least once).
If you're flying, Vancouver is a *fantastic* place to go. Lots of nature, very laid back.
Wherever you go, have a good time.
