I think my cat has had another stroke,
or at least another jarring episode of feline dementia. Her name is Chevrolet (yes, Beverly Cleary fans, and now she lives in Portland, OR, not too far from Klickitat Street).

She is 20. She was adopted from the pound by my friend Kelly (now in Peru), from whom I, in turn, adopted Chevrolet. Kelly had adopted the cat who had displayed the most violent hissing reaction at the pound.

Chevrolet is all white, deaf, and has one orange eye and one blue eye, sort of like Bowie.

Chevrolet's ultra-violent disposition endured for 20 years or so. Rare was the person allowed to scratch her tiny, empty white head. Claw marks and bite wounds greeted the unbidden friend-makers of the friendless-by-choice feline monster. Still, she is nice to have around.

Now she is all demented and strangely lovey. She still knows where her food dish is.

Kitty Alzheimer's is heartbreaking. Surely human Alzheimer's is beyond heartbreaking.

I think one reason my wife and I have such affection for this awful cat because the cat is as cranky and awful as we are. At any rate, I'll miss her if she dies before I do. This wonderful bitch cat existed.

6. Poor kitty
Like Bullwinkle said, she's very lucky to have you.

I can vouch for the fact that human Alzheimer's is beyond heartbreaking, but so is losing a valued friend to something just as horrible.

Best of luck to you both. ,,,=^..^=,,,

3. I'm sorry to hear that...
It must be hard to watch her go through that, even if she was previously awful to everyone. That's a beautiful picture of her, though! :)

5. My Misty is also not very nice - rough childhood as a stray...
She'll let you scratch her ears and chin but nothing else. Folks who don't know this get bit. But she's great company, and I wouldn't trade her in for anything.

7. Great picture. I just lost my own "bitch" from Hell in November.
Grumpiest cat that ever lived. I have 2 dogs and 3 other cats and she truly hated all of us, even me. I got to tell ya that I really don't miss that particular cat - her hygiene became unbearable and I finally had to put the couch (her favorite place to use for a toilet) out on the curb for the trash. I put it out there in the middle of the night because I didn't want anyone to know it was me. My trash people will take absolutely anything, but, sure enough, when I drove out of my driveway the next day, there it was - guess the smell was worse than I thought. Thank God, by the time I got home some wonderful person had picked it up. Whew. Thought I was going to have to go back out in the middle of the night and bring the damn thing back to the garage.

11. Thoughts and prayers going your way.
My beloved Roo (as in Winnie-the-Pooh) died this morning.

It's always hardest watching the ones you love slip away.
