7. He pays me as an independent contractor and I'm not. The IRS can
probably make him responsible-I'm trying to get him to see it's costing me too much to work for him. I take a huge hit every year in taxes that the business should be paying. Plus interest penalties etc. I've been upset about this for 2 yrs and he doesn't care. I'm trying to leave but it's hard to get another job. I've ranted about this before here. It's all coming to a head right now-he's on the phone...when he gets off I could BLOW! I won't get fired-he needs me too bad-I just don't want to cry and scream because that's how upset I am. He's a republican bastard multimillionaire. BTW-I'm NOT and Independent contractor-I'm his office manager/bookkeeper etc. He sets the hours-I use his equipment-I work only for him. He's just trying to avoid paying the taxes himself.

9. That Problem Is Way Too Common. It needs To Change!
I'd probably wait to deal with it until I had my meds though!

Hope it all works out! We're pulling for you!

11. If he hasn't accepted the argument after all this time

it seems unlikely he will after another try.

Don't rage, don't threaten, just take action.

Consult a labor lawyer. There are also books from Nolo Press (www.nolo.com) and probably others.

However this is likely to get you fired in the long run so keep records since retailitory firings are illegal in most places - particularly when it is over matters of enforcing laws. However, he can claim it was for other reasons so it gets problematic. So plan your future accordingly.

12. just call the IRS and tell them
that he's using you full time exclusively and that he's refusing to pay taxes, forcing you to act as a 1099 employee instead.

They actually have a phone number/department just for those situations.

15. I agree.
Call the IRS and give them the scoop. Ranting at this guy won't do a bit of good. He'll change the situarion because you demand it? I don't think so. There's people like him who've skirted the laws like this for years.

4. Big breath. Now look over the situation. How can you...
...make your points in a tactful and non-confrontational way? To do so means they will be more likely to be addressed, and you get to keep your job.

5. First order of business: breath slowly and deeply and pay attention to it!
Easier to control one's self with enough O2 in the noggin.

Can you go outside for a short break and take a little walk? Focus on breathing and what you senses tell you about your surroundings. It helps calm one, really.

it's actually 'nam myoho renge kyo' and it means the mystic law of the lotus sutra. called chanting daimoku.
that's part of the practice of soka gakkai buddhism, a japanese sect that's flourished world wide.
i used to practice, now i've moved on to transcendental meditation.
it's an interesting practice, kind of a protestent or reform version of buddhism. like protestantism, it cuts out the middleman as it were, connecting the individual practicioner with the infinite without a priest being in the way.
kind of cool, nice people, oddly not a very deep practice compared with others. but the chanting, in a room full of people, is absolutely riviting.

16. I first heard that in "The Last Detail,"
with Jack Nicholson and Randy Quaid. Great scene in a park, just before Nicholson has to take Quaid to the brig.
