I ran out of dishwasher detergent...
Can I subsitute anything else? We usually use the powder detergent for our dishwasher and I really don't want to go buy any right now, but have three loads of dishes to do!

1. put about two cups of regular dish soap
and watch what happens!!!!! you get to clean the whole kitchen! no there isn`t anything else to use...you`ll have to do them the old fashioned way..throw them in the garbage and buy new dishes....

2. Whatever you do...
don't try to use the liquid dish soap off the sink as a replacement. I had a roommate that did that, and it produced a scene right out of "I Love Lucy". I am not even kidding. The entire kitchen was full of suds.

detergent. Dish soap will bubble and overflow. Been there, had to mop the floor and scoop oodles of bubbles out of the dishwasher. Dana ; )

5. You could probably add a little table salt to the laundry detergent.
The salt will kill the bubbles, and be an abrasive to clean the dishes.

In all sincerity, if you only had one load, I think you could probably get by with this. But with THREE loads...maybe you ought to go to the store.

4. You can use washing soda and borax
You mix it 50/50 and use vinegar in the rinse cycle.

That's the only other thing I know of.

Most people I know don't keep washing soda on hand. I always have some since I use it for almost everything.
