12. we hosted a taping of Wait Wait Don't Tell Me
(the NPR news quiz)
I met PJ at the reception after.

It actually wasn't hard to come up with something nice to say.

When I was a teen, he wrote for Rolling Stone. I used to clip all his articles and took them with me to read on airplanes (we travelled a lot for awhile). I thought he was hilarious. I don't remember him being as overtly right wing then.

That's what I thikn every time someone mentions that O'Rourke used to write for Rolling Stone.

7. Well... I guess I'll let it slide this once.
Just as long as you weren't any nicer then you had to be.

11. if you have to be nice to someone of that persuasion,
he would be the one. Some of his books are actually quite funny.

In person or on the phone? And why are you talking to him instead of being a disruptor someplace else like the rest of us? :P

15. In person
See above.

I really don't understand where he is coming from politically. But I have an appreciation for some of his humor.

20. Yes, my dear progmom,
You are very much a class act! I feel extremely fortunate to know you even the little bit that I do! I hope someday to meet you in person...and then my joy will be complete...

21. I remember his articles in Rolling Stone
I thought he was funny. I wasn't too political at the time; I was in my teens then as well. I eventually grew into the raging liberal that I am, and I'm sure I'd find much of what he stands for to be loathsome. But, he's a funny guy. At least he was then, I haven't read anything since then.

22. Nothing wrong with being nice to him. Just don't take his advice on
how to vote, or how to reform prisons, or how to deal with the poverty in this country, or how to take personal responsibility as a citizen.

Other than that, no reason not to be nice. He's occasionally, though now less so than usual, funny. He's on the Dennis Miller trajectory.
