3. Sorry, had to go with Star Trek...
Ask this question again in 30 years and we'll see how
I feel then.

Star Wars needs a little patina on it before I'll
compare them.

12. Star Trek...because of "Star Trek II"...one of my favorite sci-fi films.
I said "ST" just because of "STII". You had a great action story, a delicious scenery chewing performance by Richardo Montalban (he even outhammed Shatner, which was quite a feat). "STII" was also quite touching, in fact...the death of Spock and the reunion of Kirk and his son. And "STII" also had the star of that show "Fat Actress" in the cast. :-)

13. Star Trek forever!
Star Wars geeks have no lives, spending their spare time propping up franchise long past its prime, one full of cardboard characters, implausible science and weirdo mysticism.

We Star Trek fans, in contrast....uh, hang on.

Um. Never mind.

I feel more absorbed into its reality. :) But only just so.

(And I like to think they cross paths somewhere, somehow, and combine into TREK WARS!.)

24. Star Wars
Star Wars is just so much more "epic". Plus, the aliens in Wars are better than those in Trek. Trek has too many "aliens" which are actually just humans with a small change (such as pointy ears).

Also, Trek messes with time travel way too much. And they don't seem to take paradoxes or anything like that into account, the way something like "back to the future" does. Star Wars wisely stays away from time travel all together.

Because the best Trek (The City on the Edge of Forever, The Best of Both Worlds, the whole Dominion war part of DS9) is waaaaaaay better than SW and ROTJ, the best Star Wars has to offer.

I'd watch Babylon 5 over again in a hearbeat.
That is, if I had more than just the first season on DVD. Damn are those things expensive!

But hell, if it's sci-fi, I'll probably watch it. I'm not too picky.

and the enabling script.

Star Trek has its roots in good scripting, casting and ensemble acting with Shatner & Nimoy angling for the spotlight.

The original Star Trek didn't NEED no stinking special effects.

Plus, there were much more profound back themes in Star Trek.

60. SW is one type of theme. ST could do MANY themes. But,
how well did SW do its theme of galactic domination?

If you're 5, it does a great job.

And SW seems to NEED the f/x in order to be watchable. In 1977 thinking mode, people would be wowed. I'n 1999, people are used to pretty pictures. They want character and writing. Neither series provided either by 1999...

Also consider, the SW folk sued the Battlestar Galactica folk for infringement. When genocide becomes comparable to domination, let me know. Until then, the lawsuit was frivolous.

53. Which world is more exciting? - Star Wars. Which would I rather live in?
Star Trek. In Star Trek, you no longer have money problems, all you have to do is worry about self-actualization. Its still dangerous if you venture out in space, but definitely not as dangerous as the Star Wars universe.

In the Star Wars universe you have a 50% chance of being shot, sold into slavery, or eaten my an alien bug every time you go outside your door to get the paper. It wouldn't be very good for my blood pressure.
