e-mail I just got.......

Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.

If Scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.

It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
Amen

If you aren't ashamed to do this, please pass this on.
Jesus said, " If you are ashamed of me," I will be ashamed
of you before my Father."

I'm not ashamed to pass this on.

2. I always wondered...
wouldn't it be just as illegal if I were to stand on the courthouse steps and scream about how I'm an athiest, as it apparently is when someone prays in a courthouse?

15. Actually, no
It's neither illegal for an athesit to distribute literature nor for a religious person to set up a prayer vigil in what is known as a public forum, such as the courthouse square. In fact, a loacl Jehovah's Witness group distributes their pamphlets near the entrances to our courthouse every so often.

Anyone can be prevented from disrupting proceedings *within* the courthouse, however, whether the disruption is religious in nature or not. This means that people can be prevented from actually conducting their vigils, distributing literature or solicitations of any kind within the building itself.

Otherwise, a public forum (such as the courthouse square, city park, etc.) are often the places in which the courts grant the most liberties with free speech.

has obviously not been reading much of the news lately...

"We can get our condoms and birth controls,"

Not for much longer, with the Christo-Fascists signing up for pharmacy school by the multitudes.

You see, since THEY can't shove their faith up kids' asses any more, (darn those activist judges!) their faith is being "persecuted."

Simply put, religious activity of all kinds is always permitted, as long as unwilling students are not coerced or mandated by the school.

This sort of swarmy bullshit really irritates me (also, I try really hard not to hate all rhyming 'poetry').

I can pray in school. It is not a Federal matter if he/she bows his/her head. DUH.

The pregnant mother shouldn't be allowed to be Prom King BECAUSE?????
:grr:

Also, being ashamed to pass on badly written tripe hardly counts as denying Jesus. :eyes: :eyes: :eyes:

10. It's not fucking illegal
God, I hate these people. It isn't illegal to pray in school.

IT IS ONLY ILLEGAL FOR THE STATE, BY OR THROUGH ONE OF THE SCHOOL'S EMPLOYEES, TO *FORCE OR COERCE* A STUDENT TO PRAY.

I don't know how it could be made any simpler. But I also know it doesn't matter to those people- their disinformation campaign counts on people thinking that kids are actually prevented from praying in school.

Here I sit me down in school
where religious idiots seem to rule
science to them is ID drool
they want me to become a fool

They claim they love our Jesus Lord
but peace, it seems, just makes them bored
my mother's bills she can't afford
and now HEADSTART is all but gored

but now they want to waste my day
when at home, they surely can pray
and God help me, if I turn out gay
their hatred will cause ME to pray

so I send you this tiny bit
of response not just for wit
but to ask you if the shoe does fit
please don't fill my inbox with this bullshit

Any bible scholars have chapter & verse for us so we can use it for zippy responses to idiots harping on being persecuted cuz they can't pray (and prey) in public schools?

Kids pray in school all the time. Just not allowable to have organized, orchestrated prayers. Why don't they take their persecution complex and hang it on a cross? :eyes:

27. That is the lamest thing I have ever seen.
Was this written by a first grader?
The whole fucking thing seems to do a lot of "judging" on the part of the child who wrote this:

"Our hair can be purple, orange or green"

"We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks."

"We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles."

I'm sure all this judging will get this writer in good with Christ.

Edited on Fri May-20-05 02:44 PM by jaredh
Nobody's saying a kid can't pray on his own while in school. It's just that the school can't force prayer or hold it as a school function. So that bit about allowing green and yellow hair isn't the same thing because the school isn't requiring that students dye their hair. These fundies are so dumb sometimes.

42. What crap. Nobody has EVER been prevented from praying.
Edited on Sat May-21-05 02:51 AM by Heidi
If I want to pray, nobody is stopping me. Prayer isn't something that requires a public spectacle; nor does it require those around me to stand up and bow their heads out of reverence (often pretended) for _my god_. The whole "ashamed" business is pushing a lot of folks' emotional (indoctrination) cues, and tying together Christianity and patriotism (nationalism) into one big clique-ish program. As I recall, Jesus also warned his followers not to make a public spectacle of prayer.

End of mini-rant.
