David Sedaris is hilarious!
And that kind of rhymes.

I'm reading Me Talk Pretty One Day, the first book of his I've ever read.

And I'm dying. I didn't know he was this good.

2. You have to listen to him reading his own stuff on NPR
His timing is impeccable - he's absolutely hilarious. You can get the book on tape nowadays.

4. Ok.
After this, I'm going to catch up on all his books. I'd always have people recommend him to me for reading material, but just never picked one up.

I find myself wanting to memorize quotes from this book it's so funny. Especially where he realizes he should have named his guitar Doug or Brian.

16. "The Rooster" is so funny!
What a contrast to David!

There were a couple hilarious chapters about the Rooster in "Dress Your Family..."

Okay, she's not really a doll in this pic, but she's so vivacious!

7. Nope, never had the pleasure.
But school's out and it's still a few weeks before my summer session starts and I was about to go crazy with nothing to read, so I picked it up. Well worth it.

13. This American Life...
Search and listen to old shows online. The books, performances on CD, or live book tours -he's one of the few authors who doesn't wear thin on re-hearing and re-reading. Just think of how many giggles you have ahead of you.

15. BB, I know you're somewhere in the Dallas area--
Every year at Christmastime, WaterTower Theatre does a production of The Santaland Diaries. They've used the same actor for the last several years and he does a terrific job. I loved hearing David tell the stories on NPR, but this actor does almost as good. You might enjoy it.

The Santaland Diaries This is the fourth year Dallas actor Nye Cooper has channeled the Spirit of Christmas Gay in David Sedaris' minty, flinty one-man show about a New York newcomer hired as a lowly Santa's helper at Macy's Herald Square. With fresh direction by WaterTower Theatre's Terry Martin and a spiffy new set by Clare Floyd Devries, it feels like a brand-new show. Cooper, as always, can generate laughs just with the strategic arching of one black eyebrow. But now he's comfortable enough with the audience to take his time telling the story of the cynical elf-for-hire who finds himself caught up in the strange magic of life inside Santa's "magic tree." In short chapters, we follow "Crumpet" through elf training, his first long days on the job, his crush on fellow elf Snowball, the psychic wounds of being shrieked at by harried parents and the final run-up to the big day when at last he can shed his velvet knickers and pointy hat. Cooper's performance catches all of Sedaris' wry timing (the author first read this material as a series of essays on National Public Radio), but he brings his own wry touches to the part. He makes one delicious Crumpet. Through December 23 at the Stone Cottage, Addison Theatre Centre, 15650 Addison Road, Addison, 214-450-6232. (E.L.)

18. He is THAT good, isn't he?
We bought ME TALK PRETTY ONE DAY on tape and listened to it on a long car trip. Sometimes I was laughing so hard I though I might drive the car into the ditch!

He does a great reading on his essays--I recommend buying one of his books on tape just for that. We've had the pleasure of seeing him twice reading some of his essays--fabulous. (At one of his readings here locally, in Raleigh, his Dad and one of his sisters was in the audience and he introduced them.)
