Would you book a June flight on United? I am trying to fly my son
home from college for a brief visit...United is one of 2 airlines that service my local airport. Strike imminent?

1. I've read that
United is so broke right now that if there was a strike they would all lose their jobs because the company couldn't afford it- don't trust me on that, though.

I would call United and ask someone there if they know what's going on- and make sure, no matter what they tell you, to buy refundable tickets!!! I didn't, and my flight is next weekend, if they strike I'm screwed. :(

2. I won't fly on United period
The threat of a strike or loss of service is one thing, but I also don't want to support companies that do business that way.

3. even aside from the strike, I'd urge you to avoid UAL...
...until they honor the promises they made to their employees.

I'm in the same boat-- trying to book a flight that does not involve UAL, from an airport where they provide the majority of service.

4. here is the issue
if they go on strike or out of business there is no guarentee that you will get a refund

It is a very sad situation, because this could only make things for United worse if people don't fly it because it could accelerate them into bankrupcy, yet at the same time there is some risk for those who want to fly

you will need to identify those risks

5. how true..I'd like to support the employees, but don't want my son
stranded in an airport for a day looking for another flight home. Our local airport isn't even open at night so he is really limited.
