Poll question: On A Scale Of 1 - 10, How Weird Are You? |
|
With 10 being in need of psychological counseling and perhaps a stay in a padded room.
And 1 being totally, 100% boring and normal. Not even a noticiable tick.
And just for a reference point, 5 would be "I sometimes scare my friends and family."

My conservative parents think I'm a 9, but my friends think I'm a 5. Mostly I tend to keep my weirdness to myself. Toys in the attic.
BTW, my dog is definitely a 10.
On Edit: I think your poll is bass-akward. IMO the 1's need the counseling, the 8's, 9's and 10's are what makes life interesting.

She's just a nut sometimes. I tend to prefer and encourage life at the top of that scale.

11. If 5 is sometimes scaring your family, then I am a 6. |

I frequently scare my family. Don't be fooled by Aristus' calm, sedate and straightforward forum manner. Inside lurks a crazy being!

13. I never scare my friends or family |
|
So I felt I had to vote 3 . . .
. . . but then I started actually *thinking* about my friends and my family, and they're really not a very good yardstick. I mean, most of them fall into a range somewhere between eccentric and nuts, and there's not a normal in the bunch.
If the question had been more along the lines, of "Compared to the general public, how weird are you?", I would probably have voted 6 or 7.

15. Societal norms frighten me |
|
Must...Avoid...Conformity!!!
I, of course, think I am the barometer of normalcy, but for some reason, most of the people around me find me peculiar enough to be alarming.

I'm a pretty normal person, but I'm unusual enough (mostly in good ways I'd like to think at least) that I can't quite find myself completely uncomfortable with the mainstream of society either.

My husband assures me that I've been getting more normal, but I don't know if that is good or not. I used to think that I would be a 10 and was insecure about my weirdness, but I've met much weirder people. My mother has always considered me very weird, which is probably why it used to bother me so much. Sometimes when I talk to people I can tell that they think that I'm strange. On the otherhand, I never really preferred normal people. Yes, I'd be friends with them if they were kind, loyal, and accepting (although maybe that in itself is not normal) but I'd need weird friends too. My husband is probably weirder than me, which is good for me when we spend time together but not good when we try to meet and socialize with people who we don't know. My theme song for myself is Avril's "I'd Rather Be Anything than Ordinary". It didn't get radio air time, at least in my area, because we're all suppose to conform. I don't worry about conforming anymore. I think about things differently than most people and all great advancements have been made by someone thinking about something differently. My husband likes me. My dog likes me. I have a few friends who like me. Everywhere I go, someone will like me. Even if they wouldn't, I am the genuine article. I put myself as an 8 because I'd consider 10 nonfunctional in society and I've known weirder functional people.

20. Need psychological counseling... |
|
That's what I voted for. I'm sure a lot of people feel that about me :)
But then again, I view myself as 100% normal, just not the same 'normal' as others use :)
