Should I send in this resume? |
|
I'm currently on "occupational disability" with Railroad Retirement. That means that I cannot perform my former job (Locomotive Engineer) due to arthritis in my back. I can't take the jarring and vibration anymore.
My union has a position open, that I can probably get if I send in the resume. The problem is that if I get the job, I'll have to terminate my disability. That's a guaranteed $2,600 per month. I can probably earn close to 6 figures in the other position, and then re-retire in 7 years. I just turned 53, and could go on full retirement (minus 20%) at age 60.
What to do?

1. Send in the resume, see what happens. |

If they offer you the job, then you can really wrestle with what to do.
Good luck!!!!

3. I worked for 31 years for The River Terminal Railway Company |
|
Which was a subsidiary of Republic Steel, and later LTV Steel. I was also a union officer, and spoke to a friend, an International VP, and was told to send it in.
We ran mainly GM EMD SW 100's.
