He always cracked me up with those WILD blazers he wore.

LOS ANGELES -- Rod Roddy, the flamboyantly dressed announcer on "The Price is Right" whose booming, jovial voice invited lucky audience members to "Come on down!" for nearly 20 years, died Monday. He was 66.

Roddy, who suffered from colon and breast cancer, died at Century City Hospital, according to his longtime agent, Don Pitts. He had been hospitalized for two months.

"He had such a strong spirit. He just wouldn't give up," Pitts said Monday.

Roddy had been ill for more than two years but tried to work as long as he could, said Bob Barker, host of "The Price is Right." Roddy had been with the game show for 17 years.

1. I met him briefly
As it turns out, Mrs. Robb was a contestant a couple of years ago... there was a period of time when we had his voice on our answering machine, telling her to "come on down".

Now Bob, that guy's gonna outlive most of us here. Freakin' rock....

2. that is too bad
That show is one of my guilty pleasures - I have watched off and on since it went on the air 30 or so years ago! I remember Roddy starting when I was in high school and those flashy suits. He cracked me up.

I had no idea he was suffering so. Condolences to his family and friends.

3. What a shame.
I had thought that he lost some weight a while back. I thought he was in pretty good health.

That's really too bad. He did an excellent job when he replaced Johnny Olsen. Roddy made the show just as much fun.

My condolences to Rod Roddy's family.

4. CNN made a major goof this morning (7 am)...
...they said it was Rowdy Roddy Piper that died. Oops!

5. I hope he doesn't "Come On Down"
Don't think that's the direction in which he wishes to go. Sympathies, of course. What a great job.

7. C'mon -- what was better television than...
BOB: "Tell her what she's playing for, Rod Roddy..."
ROD: "It's A NEW CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR!!!!!"
John
Absolutely classic American stuff. My condolences go out as well.
