Any former "world travelers" who no longer have desire to travel?
When I was a kid, I wanted to travel all over the world - to me, that meant London, Paris, Rome, and California, etc., mostly Western places. I've now been to most of those places.

And lost the desire to travel.

Just in the last few years, I've made so many plans to travel to places and then canceled at the very last minute because I just can't bear being stuck in a metal tube for 10 hours both ways. The dollar doesn't stretch as far anymore, effectively shortening the amount of time viable for such trips. And since I'm single, I get bored after two or three days, esp. if it's somewhere I've been before and I don't know anyone there.

I'm not sure what my problem is, but I would appreciate it if someone whose experienced a similar "crisis" - LOL - could share.

2. I don't travel nearly so much as in the past....

Partly because my reasons for travel have changed a little-- I'm less interested in experiencing lots of different places now than I am in returning to certain cherished places, for example. And the hassle factor has really gotten to me, especially where airline travel is concerned. I dread air travel now-- what was once an enjoyable part of the experience has become the dues you have to pay to travel if you fly.

3. Air travel used to be sexy
But now its mostly a greyhound with wings.A cruise can be fun if you pick the right ship and the right destination.

4. I grew up traveling around the world...
Caribbean, Souteast Asia, Africa. As a kid it sucked because I wanted to live in the USA and go to a regular American school and listen to top 40 radio and work in the supermarket and buy a 1950 Ford hotrod. (American Graffitti was my dream made into a movie.)

I am glad that I saw the world before it became totally Americanized and McDonald's-ized. But I don't care too much about travelling now.

5. Right here..........
I've been just about everywhere you can imagine (exept India, and I've never wanted to go there) but I've had it. I don't care if I ever leave town again to be truthful.

6. Yeah, it's like I (in NYC) don't even want to schlep to Philly
and it's only two hours! I'm just like, for what?

don't get me wrong, I love Paris and Philly and Quebec and Miami - but I just don't understand why I should go?

I've also had some personal issues this past year, so that contributes to my feelings of not wanting to travel and instead save money and think about my future. Serious, serious me. lol

Of course, the international tensions and crappy job market don't help create a bubbly atmosphere for travel.

9. I've never travelled outside the US
And I'd love to. I've just never really been able to afford it. I have travelled all over the US and part of Canada and that's been a ball because most of it has been either hitchhiking or driving.

I always travel alone and I never get bored. As a matter of fact, i prefer to travel alone. I can do what I want, go where I want, stop when I want, eat where I want. No compromises, I can be totally spontaneous without worrying about ruining my companion's travelling experience.

10. I love to travel.
I've done a fair amount of it. For ten years I was an airline ticket agent back when flying was wonderful, and I made full use of the free travel we got. While raising my kids I've mostly traveled within the U.S., often to visit family or on long driving trips with the boys. Now they're just about grown (18 and 22) and I'm doing more traveling on my own again.

Saturday I'm off to Tucson for a week because a high school reunion (my 40th! is happening). The middle weekend in June my husband and I are going to Pittsburgh for a family wedding. On June 30th I'm flying to Tampa for three days for a conference. The following Saturday (July 6) I'm driving out to Santa Fe, New Mexico, for a week of discussing Machiavelli's The Prince, and when that's over I'm driving up to Boulder to spend a week with a friend. But in the middle of that week I'm flying out to Orange County, CA, to meet with some distant cousins of my husband who live in Australia but will be passing through on an around the world trip. After I fly back to Denver, my friend and I will drive up to Montana to visit the Little Big Horn battleground. And then I'll come home in time to get my two sons off to their respective colleges and to resume my classes in the fall.

I hate the hassle of flying and I know what total crap "security" is, but I love to travel more than I hate the hassle. And I won't let the b.s. stop me.

What I'd really love to do is spend longer time in places, a minimum of six weeks. Maybe as long as six months. THAT'S my dream these days.

11. Latin America is starting to look mighty inviting
With the political climate down south starting to swing left in multiple locales, it's looking better all the time! The best thing is it can be done without flying!
