Favorite SNL sketch? (or sketch series)?
One of my favorites is the one where Will Ferrel is Alex Trebek on Jeapordy!, and the contestants were Bill Cosby, Sharie Osborne, and Sean Connery.

4. The Superhero party. Back in 1977.
The old cast were dressed like Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash... John Belushi was The Hulk who received complaints from the other Superheroes for stinking up the bathroom.
Classic SNL!

Especially, when Ferrell's Bush was under his desk as the great Lakes burnt and the world was being destroyed by bombs, whimpering that he'd broken Hoover Dam.

It was more Prophesy than Comedy.

14. Phil Hartman playing "Smart Reagan"
The head-nodding and vagueness is all a front and he's really intelligent, running the whole show, joking in Arabic and Russian to world leaders on the phone, then having to pretend to be an old duffer to present some Girl Scout with an award. As soon as that's over, he snaps back to the "real" Reagan - it's priceless.
I miss Phil Hartman.

I remember him from "The Biblethumpers" spreading the good news as they all shout and "damn to hell" everything and everybody.

I thought the Joe Pesci show was hilarious when Joe and Robert DeNiro show up at the end of it, even though DeNiro was cracking up while doing it.

26. to me, it is not the recurring series
since the Coneheads and the Samauri and so on have always been recurring. It is when they decided recurring series would all be TV shows and have their little theme songs like Lothar, Toonces, Pat, and even the church lady had to get a talk show. For a while there, every one of their skits was a TV show, like its all about TV - Wayne's world, etc. Especially when SNL was about the only TV that I made a point to watch, and they are doing parodies of Regis and Cathy Lee, and I am like "this is not funny" or "I don't get it". Then Sting was a host and in all the sketches, he played - Sting. Wow, that is clever. What ever happened to pretend - pretend the camera isn't there?

Yeah, especially Jeopardy with both Sean Connery & Burt Reynolds(Norm MacDonald). Maya Rudolph's Donatella with Horatio Sanz' Elton John is always a hoot. And one that's relatively new, but hopefully will be repeated often, is Jimmy Fallon & Justin Timberlake doing "The Barry Gibb Talk Show" - and the two of them actually have the Beegee harmony down STONE cold!

48. Projectile vomiting.
I'm not a regular watcher, so I don't know how recurrent this sketch is, but the basic premise is that oe or two of the characters have hoses run through the sleeves of their costumes, and a special effects guy forces "vomit" through the hoses when the characters cover their mouths. Example: three cops examining a crime scene, with a horribly mutilated corpse. Every time one of them looks at the body, they vomit about 50 gallons.

The reason I like it so much is that it's never timed right, and more often than not, their arms just independently "vomit" throughout the sketch, whether they're near the actors' faces or not. It just slays me to see it.

A skit that all the female cast members and Linda Ronstadt sang an ode to saccharin, God I use to laugh till it hurt.
I was in the huge party mode in the late '70's and would be at RAGER party's, SNL would come on and everyone would stop to watch and laugh.

I was spoiled, I think the original cast was the best.

71. Samurai Night Fever
The absolute best of John Belushi's "Samurai" sketches

Belushi played the Travolta character from "Saturday Night Fever", and OJ Simpson (yes, the real OJ... probably why you never see it on any "best of" reruns) played his older brother.

OJ's best line? "I don't wanna be BLACK no more!"

76. From what I heard,
John Travolta was really dissed and made fun of in early SNL. BTW, Saturday Night Fever is one of my favorite movies.

86. Travolta
wasn't even an afterthought in "Samurai Night Fever". Belushi's character played the Travolta one, but that's all they had in common. Belushi was too busy swinging a sword and grunting.

I was an avid SNL fan in late 1970s. I don't remember the show paying that much attention to Travolta.

BTW I think Saturday Night Fever is a pretty good movie too. Not my favorite but by no means a dog.

88. Travolta was on SNL at least once
He played Marlon Brando in a skit sometime in the mid 90s, I think...

I'm sure SNL joked about him occasionally, but I can't remember anything particularly nasty.

75. Will Ferrell in Yoga Class
Out of so many favorites, that was the first one that popped in my head!

Toby McGuire was the yoga instructor. It's rather hard to describe, but everyone in the class wanted to learn Will's position

84. I always liked the commercials.
Especially the earlier ones. Don't know why, exactly, but they always did such a great job of being so spot on in parodying whatever fad was going on at the time.

Sublime.
Also Gilda Radner had a beautifully bittersweet quality about her performances (you know-funny and sad at the same time). That is something that I cannot credit to any other SNL member.

101. "The Very Small Restroom with an Attendant"
Harvey Keitel can't keep a straight face as he tries to use a one-person men's room staffed by attendant Kevin Nealon, who is equipped with everything from newspapers and magazines to exotic room-freshening sprays.

Best Part: Keitel sitting on the john in hysterics as Nealon prepares him a row of neatly folded toilet-tissue apportionments.
