8. An old friend of mine put herself through med school

working as a stripper. I had the opportunity when I was in college and I did consider it. My parents found out and threatened to disown me so I didn't go through w/ it. The other girls at the club (I did my research first) were bringing home anywhere from $300 (slow night) to almost $600 (Fri and Sat nights). This was in the early 90's.

I heard this story about this guy who hired an escort, and she came over with a driver, and the driver came back in a few minutes knocking at the door (it was in a hotel) implying that he'd cause a scene if the escort wasn't returned immediately.

No it was not me that this happened to.

I'm not sure but I think it may have been in Las Vegas, and I saw in one of the American Pimp movies that the prostitutes play off the fact that people think prostitution's legal in Las Vegas, but it's actually banned within the city or county limits or something. So the escorts will rip them off or take their wallet or something, and then the johns go to report it, and the police tell them that they really should just let it go because they'd get in trouble for soliciting if they reported it and so that's how they get away with it.

Yeah, I could see some organizations doing that. This service, however, catered to some very, very wealthy people. They tried to maintain a low profile and a good reputation.

What a shame she smoked it and snorted it all away. The club she worked often had a "private event" service where she quite often was transformed into a sex-worker.
It was a nasty business and she still has a terrible substance problem stemming to her days "on the pole".

Not sure if being the owner of a lingerie and erotic boutique qualifies as sex work - although I do special order shoes for cheap for all the local dancers, and sell them their t-backs and garters.

We are a fine retail establishment here, selling lingerie, hosiery, lotions & oils, adult toys and novelties, and of course movies and magazines - for people to enjoy in the privacy of their own homes.

I have been involved in several aspects of the sex industry, but prefer not to discuss them here. But I'm supportive of unionization, and cleaning up the industry to the point where nobody is ripped off.

Ultimately, though, I think it's a very dangerous game for all but the most strong-willed and sensible people. I know too many people who have been consumed by it.

On the other hand, I recently reunited (via the internet) with an old HS girlfriend, who told me she had been feature tour stripping from age 20 to 30. She's now retired, and owns a horse farm in Northern California. She's 36. So there are success stories.

I currently volunteer with an organisation which teached life and career skills to women trying to get out of prostitution. It's very, very difficult, but pretty rewearding.
