2. What's the deal with Splenda?
I remember hearing that it isn't really made from sugar, and it's just another artificial sweetener.

8. I'm almost positive it's just an isomer
Meaning it is sugar, it just isn't broken down by your body.
But maybe that's another brand?

3. If Migraines Are ALL You Get From NutraSweet
you're lucky. Monsanto ought to be tried for criminal negiligence in ever allowing that shit to market. that stuff causes more health problems than you can shake a stick at! Splenda's great, glad to see Coke is finally going with it.

That half-assed C2 wasn't making it for me. I want Splenda all the way!

20. NutraSweet causes mental retardation in kids with PKU
and dementia in PKU adults. The warning is on the label of everything containing NutraSweet.

Monsanto really is giving new meaning to the phrase "the dumbing down of America."

Edited on Sat May-28-05 09:54 PM by primate1
tonight. I hadn't had the drink in a few years, but when I used to drink it it didn't have any artificial sweeteners. The Splenda totally ruined it for me.

32. At my teenager sons urging
I tried it yesterday and I absolutely hated it. Way too much aftertaste for me. I wound up pouring at least half the bottle out. I'll just stick with my one true love, regular diet coke. (crossing fingers they don't take it off the market now due to the new splendarific diet coke.)

23. Lab mistake!
Edited on Sat May-28-05 10:40 PM by oneold1-4u
Aspartame was not originally a sweetner but an error! An error in a firm that makes things like insectacides! It didn't attract a bug but was found to be sooooooooo sweeeeeeet that with a few million dollars put in the right pockets (including Diabetes Associations and research) they got a multi-billion $ market for more than 20 years of poison, so don't ever trust the FDA more than your common sense about your health!
PS Stevia is a plant and can be grown in house or yard. On the market it is a processed food and as expensive as Splenda.
PSS Stevia is used in the best of nutrition supplements.

that has Splenda, too, and I personally prefer the taste even to Diet Coke with Splenda. And the Diet Rite orange rocks.

Diet Coke with Splenda doesn't really taste like diet Coke.

18. They are too late !
For a lot of my friends who would not believe me (back in the 80s) when I said the artificial sweeteners used in beverages were far worse than the one back in the 60s. Diabetes, cancer and greater obesity have been the results and several have died. They were only overweight when they started but none lost an ounce until they were gravely ill!
The person, I care provide for, removed white refined sugar one year ago, and with splenda in beverages and foods, has lost 70 pounds and defeated high blood sugar. So far no visible negative side effects!
You can count it luck if a bad headache is the worst for you!
PS She was a Pepsiholic(5-6 a day) and quit cold turkey! All colas can be habit forming!

27. the corn syrup is even worse then the white sugar, I read recently.
The same article said sodas are loaded with corn syrup. The article said that there is more of a direct connection between diabetes and corn syrup then there is from diabetes and white sugar.

36. This is true
High fructose corn syrup is a highly refined carbohydrate. Your body can't break it down as it would ordinary sugar. Bleached flour is almost as bad. Hence your typical fast food meal (complete with super-sized drink) is the carbohydrate equivalent of pure uncut heroin.

...I can't drink Coke anymore. Too many South American death squads, that kind of thing.

ANYway - how does Splenda stack up against high-fructose corn syrup as far as unhealthy unnatural sweeteners?

39. What's the point of drinking cancer causing non-nutrative fake
sugary substances?

You ruin your kidneys and deprive your body of much needed nutrients and hydration...

You're buying .02c of cancer causing chemicals instead of hydrating and replenishing your body with WATER.

Second, Splenda kills lab rats.
