Would you rip the wings off a butterfly for $1,000,000? |
|
(A message to those that reply "Yes": You are one sick puppy, I hope your new found wealth will keep you warm, because you damn sure won't find any comfort in a meaningful relationship with another human, you selfish greedy fuck.:D)
(A message to those that reply "No": You are the most compassionate person on the planet and a friend to all animals:hi:)

...the butterfly was a Republican!
...the butterfly was going to cause a hurricane in China!
It all depends, don't it!

Repay my bills and then donate the rest (about 979,000) to a preservation fund for butterflies.
Conversely, would you stop walking because of a fear you'd squash an ant under your foot?

On the day of my nephew's baptism, we had an outdoor party. In their backyard, a butterfly was trapped in a spider-web, but still trying to fly away. Everyone said, "oh, look at that..." but did nothing, so I went over and freed it.
I thought that was a rather symbolic gesture for that day. O8)

What about the tax ramifications?
Would I have to report it to the IRS?
How about paying me in cash?
Can I wear rubber gloves?
Will there be witnesses?
Nothing's ever as simple as it appears, and, besides, what if it's one of those rare Killer Butterflies that preys on nowborn babies?
So, just take your righteous indignation and shove it, because some butterflies are just asking for it.
Begging for it.

13. Only if its spirit had already flown from its body. |
|
If the creature was already dead, I would. Several years ago I happened upon a Monarch with an injured wing outside my office. I took it home & fed it hummingbird food for over a week till it did pass on. I hope it didn't suffer more because I didn't go ahead & just kill it, but I couldn't bring myself to do that & I couldn't leave it for predators. About a year later (at the same office), a hummingbird hurt itself flying into the window. I did the same thing as with the butterfly; it died after several days but it was remarkable how it let me feed it. I hope somehow I helped these little creatures along their way.

Hell yes I'd rip the wings off a butterfly for that amount of cash. I'd do it for even 100 times less.
You know why, because with that money I could help to raise awareness of situations that actually fucking matter, like voter fraud, genocide in Africa, or buy our abused soldiers in Iraq some body armor, or hell, just give it to the homeless man who asks me for change each day. I'd love to give him $1000 instead of the couple of quarters I have in my pocket so he can go and get a real meal instead of the bowl of cold noodles I see him eating on the street.

If that makes me a bad person, so be it. But I have some GOOD damn things I'd do with that million. One butterfly sacrifices itself so that I can put a million to use helping others.
I'd say that's a good trade. Plus that money could continue to help people through the interest it makes!

I'm not good at odd hypotheticals. What in the world would be the context that would make somebody willing to pay for a butterfly to be dewinged?
I'd be very suspicious, given that maiming a butterfly doesn't seem like a very terrible thing to do. Is it terrible because butterflys are prettier than other bugs?
