When it's cold there are a lot of ways to warm myself up. When I'm sipping on a slushie and scantily clad, but still sweating my ass off, I'm shit out of luck.

I don't like salt water and sand, even though I like looking at them. I can't see what's going on in a lake, under the surface, and don't know what might be lurking there. Yes, I have many phobias...
I'm sorry, progmom, about the delay in answering your question, but last night I had the darndest time getting any screen to re-load on DU. Apparently, others were having the same problem. Also, we had some terrible storms in our area, and at one point they knocked the power down.

:D I started in Music Education, and dropped it because I was miserable. Flirted with Communications but never decalred (when you actually hear my voice you may know why). Fell into Secondary Education-Social Studies and flunked it in a glorious fashion, then finally graduated with a B.A. in History.

Ok, not really... It was a girl at school. Her name was Christiane. As I remember it, it was the first time I looked at a girl and noticed her prettiness.

Not... really. I'm not very visually oriented. I've done some fair photography, but that was more chance than talent. I paint, but nothing good, it's just fun to get messy and create something weird. I also am trained in stage/theatrical/special effects makeup, but I'm not sure if that's artistic... and it's less a talent and more a... skill I guess.
So, short answer no.

Good food, good wine, probably the most wonderful art (which I like) of any country on the planet, and only a dash over an hour by plane.
France comes as an honourable second, fulfilling both of the first two criteria, plus iritating freeper-types.
I'm going to visit the U.S. once you get round to getting a decent president (let's just say the bags aren't packed yet), but it will be difficult to take the lead.

I'm considering the fact that even by just appearing in a time in the past you would change history forever, because it would take so much energy to travel back in time that if you appeared in a time in the past, the spot where you appeared in the past would have an "imprint" of energy, perhaps changing the weather, or even the climate! Also, if I were to travel back in time, according to theory, you would appear in a parallel universe, and since there would be an infinite number of parallel universes, I would never be able to get back to this universe!
So... If I considered those complications, I wouldn't want to risk going back in time. But if I ignored them, I would want to. Preferably back to the 70's, the decade of disco!
P.S: Is that all you got? Come on, ask a tougher science question!

Edited on Tue May-31-05 01:29 AM by SOteric
on what manner of being 'impressed' we're talking about. I don't have just one dish that I pull out as the answer to all challenges. I do have a creamy Chicken Marsala in a Jus Lié which has quite seriously garnered me 3 separate and genuine marriage proposals. I no longer share that recipe. It may be dangerous in the wrong hands. :7
I don't eat red meat, but I do prepare it. And one dish I make, a kind of tournedo of beef in a green pepper and cognac glaze, is fun to pull out because the cognac flames in the pan when I make the pan sauce and it ads a certain amount of 'bling' to the presentation.
I also enjoy making a sabayon of white chocolate and Poire William because the flavours are so sensational that most of those who've tasted it experience a moment not unlike sex.
I make a handmade crab rangoon which I float in a pool of hot and sour plum beurre blanc.
Pan-smoked Canadian Lake Trout which I form into cakes, laced with dijon and horseradish.
Scallops in sweet vermouth and a roasted red pepper coulis, - that's a personal favourite.
Duck confit, - complex, but well worth the effort, in the Italian style with olives.
For fast and stunning, I make a chocolate mousse 'torte' that is more or less whipped ganache. The better the chocolate, the better the flavour. It's pretty easy to garnish as well

In terms of an "afterlife" or the rewards in a "heaven." We're organic beings and we go the way of other living organisims. The only thing we have is what we do here and now. And hopefully that is for the good of those who come after us.

|
When I had my first child and discovered what it was like to have someone so tiny and innocent dependent on me. :-)
When I "woke up" and realized that contrary to what he had told me, I did NOT have to stay married to my abusive first husband. I could pack up my kids and leave. I might not be pretty, but I could (and did) do it.
When I met my current husband and fell head over heels instantly. And again when I saw what it like to be with someone who respected me and demonstrated that on a constant basis.
Probably more than you wanted to know. :-)
