Boston College has a breeding pair of red tailed hawks that live on campus, and I usually see them flying around when I walk to class. They have a nest right by a bus station, so sometimes they fly in really close.
I, for some reason, have always had very close encounters with them. One time, the female dive bombed over my head- like 2 feet over my head. I smelled her and my hair moved :o
Today, when I going on my walk, I saw the male on one of the stone pillars that is along Beacon Avenue. He was sitting there with a freshly killed squirrel.
I obviously didn't bother him, despite being 5 feet away. I could see his eyes blink, hear him clack his beak. But he was comfortable with me. So I sat down and just watched him for about 45 minutes.
Joggers came and passed, and didn't see him! How can you miss a big raptor FIVE FEET FROM YOU? And the funny thing is, they really aggravated him, but I didn't =)
