*****Heads UP****Possible Aurora Show tonight*****
This one has the potential to be bigger than the show on May 15th which was visible over much of the United States.
The conditions are Good for a spectacular display, but there ARE no guarantees.

This is a HOT link which will be updated automatically.
The red arrow points to the position of the Sun.
The Orange and Red areas are the best conditions for visible aurora.

We will have a 1/2 moon tonight, moonrise 2:12 AM.
Sky forecast to clear. Ideal viewing should be between 10PM and 2:AM,
but there are no guarantees.

The Statistical Auroral Oval from May 15th, the last REALLY BIG show.
(tonight's looks even better)

These are some of the pics pf the Aurora of May15th
which was obscured in Minnesota due to 100% cloud cover.

Lyndon Anderson,
Bismarck, North Dakota, USA
May. 15

The reds actually painted the foreground of the pic w/o enhancement.
Rob Brumm,
Marinette, WI USA
May. 15

Jesús Ojeda,
Saint Francis, Wisconsin, USA
May. 15

The above pictures were from my latitude, but this Aurora display was visible into Nebraska and New Mexico on may 15th.
For more spectacular pictures of the May 15th display, Go here:

3. I received the alert via email from Space Weather

It's worth getting up to see - but I don't think it'll be visible in southern New York State.

10. Nothing
I went up to the hills in the park with two cameras and stayed there from around 10 to 11:30....

Got up at 2:30 and went out again but didn't see a sign of anything other than lots and lots of stars in the sky...clearer than it's been in a long time.

I checked out Heavens-above.com and got the satellite schedules so I did see 4 satellites go over but no aurora....

sigh........maybe next time....

12. The top radar looks like tonight's. But shouldn't the yellow/red area be
over the areas likely to see auroras?

The NOAA aurora site said that the blue areas are not significantly different than the surrounding black areas.

So far I, ignorant as I am, would say those in the northernmost states have a slim chance, but only if the field moves down a bit.

13. Am kicking...
The good news is I just noticed a lot more blue/white-blue appear, and the red/orange edging down a tiny bit. Just 300 more miles and I'll be content to go out.

Bad news is Minnesota is in line for storms. That might hamper things.

One of my 'things to see before I croak' is the aurora borealis. *sigh*

16. I didn't think that we would have anything on the last one
(May 15) so I missed out. Turns out the pics from here were beautiful.
All taken in Warrensburg, MO

If I can talk someone into babysitting at this late hour I'll take a quick trip out to the countryside and try to see if I can find it. It's too bright in my front yard from the streetlights and the entire backyard is covered w/ trees.

18. Crap! It's been overcast for days in Maine!!
It was the eighties when I witnessed my first really spectacular aurora. Sigh!! Here in Maine it has been overcast for more than a week, almost two actually. It is really beginning to wear thin on my nerves. Looks like I'm going to miss it if it happens! Gad!!!

:grr:
