Texas DUers, I could use some help! |
|
My wife just found out about a half hour ago that one of our friends (her masseuse) met with a tragedy last week (she was planning to have her baby at home, but something happened and there was apparently no mid-wife present). The baby was stillborn. she took the baby to the hospital, but to no avail. The news just reached us tonight, through another friend. Apparently there was a great deal of talk around the workplace about the circumstances surrounding the infant's death. We cannot reach the young woman, and are concerned that something has happened to her as well. We don't know if she has been arrested, or has gone into hiding, or what. If there are any Texas DUers around the Bryan/College Station area, please let me know if anything like this has been in the news, or if you have heard anything at all. If you wish, please PM me. Thanks to all. I know the chances of finding her are probably slim, but this young woman is worth the effort. She is a good person, and doesn't deserve the slime job her dear co-workers are spreading on her.

1. I have a father nearby that area. |
|
But I can't call him until tomorrow.
I'm going to check online for the Bryan CS Eagle or whatever and see if they are reporting anything.

My guess is that it won't really hit the media until they have something definitive from an autopsy.
Of course, this really bad outcome, which could have happened as easily in the hospital, will cause the state lege to rail against the practice of midwifery and this woman's life will probably be turned upside down for her choices regarding controlling her healthcare. At least, that what I tend to see over and over.
I'm still looking.

I'm in Austin, about 100 miles from Bryan/College Station, but I have not heard a thing yet. Bryan/College Station is up near Waco. Try also checking the Waco news sources.

7. Likewise; I haven't heard or seen anything. |
|
The news outlets for B/CS are The Bryan/College Station Eagle, KBTX-TV in Bryan, and the ABC and NBC stations in Waco/Temple/Killeen.
I wish you luck in your search for information.

6. My thanks to all of you; I am on my way to teach my morning classes |
|
now, but will check in later and let you know if I hear anything. I agree 100% that her life will probably be turned upside down and worse. She already has one small child, and the gossip that was going around seemed to hint that the CPS folks were thinking about taking him away. It is a horrible situation. Also, Ilsa, you are absolutely correct, the local AMA types will have a field day with this, irrespective of the actual circumstances, as midwives tend to cut into their power/influence/control.

8. Miki, I spoke with my father this morning. |
|
He lives nearby B/CS in Brenham. He hasn't heard anything about a case like this. He said the noon news isn't a very good program, but he would listen for it then anyway, and listen for it again on the 5pm news, which is the most comprehensive.
Does the woman have family nearby that are available to keep the older child under the instruction of CPS? I know they allow that sometimes as opposed to placing a child in foster care. I don't understand why CPS is involved already.
Scary, isn't it? Especially after what happened to those children in NJ. Frontline ran a report last Thursday about the death of a little girl who was in foster care. I never did understand why she was taken from her mother in the first place.

9. I found the obit in theB/CS Eagle, from Oct. 17 |
|
I still have no follow-up on the mother, but the obit for the baby was there. Heartbreaking! I will talk with my wife tonight (she's out in the swamps of Louisiana, doing interviews for the university). Will post again later. Apparently the family is from Anderson, which if I recall, is near Brenham. Thanks:hi:
