FACT: aftercare of a new tattoo hurts more than actually getting it
Edited on Thu Jun-02-05 11:42 PM by mark414
ouch

does this mean i'm trashy?

edit: this was my second tattoo...the first being my family motto (i'm irish) scrolling the length of my forearm in the native language

this new one is the family crest, in full color, on my tricep...

i'll have some pics when i find someone with a camera...

being a weenie, complaining about a little bit of pain.

Don't you remember your high-school football coach's advice for anything that hurts?

Just run it off!

9. Doing well, thanks for asking.
Trying to get the ladies inflamed about the tat? Imply that it's a locomotive, that it's in a, err, sensitive region, and that it turns into a freight train under the right circumstances...

That oughta get 'em going. Though watch out for fact-checkers.

7. Wimp!
It doesn't hurt that much. I've had them done. Hurts like hell getting a few of them on (especially the one on my ankle-it was right over that knobby part and you could feel the needle vibrating down to the bone. That kind of sucked for a minute. Good thing I went in high). Aftercare was nothing. I always used A&D. And remember the sunscreen this time of year or it could fade out really fast.

11. What does that make me?
I took my tats "like a man", even though I was bony and a bleeder. And I was dumb "Miss, do you really want it right over that bone? It might hurt." Me: "Fuck that-I want it done there right now. I can take it."
I did turn white at one point but that's because I had blood running up my leg and I had been skipping my ferrous sulfate tabs at the time (I have anemia). Probably not a good idea. Like I said, I'm a bleeder. But I didn't even flinch otherwise.

34. upper arm & hiney cheek
Red/black Ming vase /bird head thing wrapped on upper arm, for my child. Butt one is caduceus (staff/snake) with top of staff turning into an ankh with a twining rose (for healthcare, eternal life, mother). Heavy memorial stuff combined with color. Recommendation: butt tattoos are nice for others but you don't see them, get tattoos where you can see and enjoy them.

13. When you've been through 26 hours of labor,
had a nine pound baby, and tore in places you would never want to tear, all with no drugs, then you can talk about pain!

:D

Otherwise, remember this motto of my husband's: pain is just weakness leaving the body.

I got a rash from the antibiotic ointment I used, but it wasn't that bad. Are you sure it isn't infected? When in pain, I just go someplace else. That may sound whacky, but it works for all but the worst pain.

On edit: every person's experience is different. Your skin may be more sensitive than mine...and time may have dimmed my perceptions. :) It's been awhile since my tattoo. The guy who did it said it was in a fairly sensitive place: just below my left collar bone and above my boob. :)

30. Hehe...I think you wanted an opportunity to share your story,
which is totally fine. :D Getting a tatt means you sat still through some really interesting sensations, eh? I know I did. By the time the artist was finished, I had endorphins surging through my body.

Mine is a full-color rose:

If I can find the money, I want to get some kind of tattoo to commemorate my surgery--if the surgery works. I'm moneyless (nice tatts cost boucoup bucks) and I don't know yet if the surgery was successful.

is that on your back?

and yes the feeling is just so...different; it's hard to describe to someone who hasn't gotten one

it hurts so bad but feels so good!

i am lucky in that i have many seedy underground friends (ha...totally kidding) who also happen to be tattoo artists...so i've gotten both of mine done for super cheap (and i'm getting another one on saturday...just a small little flash piece, but also super cheap)

if i ever want to get something really big though...that will take some time to save up for

what would you get to commemorate your surgery?

and only if it's on your lower back, of course!

I agree that the aftercare is a bitch, I had color transfer onto my clothes, that was annoying! I used witch hazel this time instead of antibiotics and creams, and it went so much more smoothly.

Show us your motto! and pics of the new ones soon...see you are getting another soon. :-) It does hurt so good, although my back didn't really hurt at all. seriously.

I want to put on my neck. :) I'm not sure, but I know I want a hawk theme: free bird, free from pain. It's over, thank goodness...you know, that sort of thing.

The tattoo following that will happen when I lose most of the weight I gained during an extreme bout with depression. The weight gain happened so quickly, I got diabetes, sleep apnea and degenerative disc disease because of it. I'm almost positive that's what happened.

The "weight loss" tattoo will be on my upper arm, I think.

I'm doing it, slowly but surely.

Take a look:

Very plump Ladyhawk with massive black cat:

Very plump Ladyhawk with silly green bird:

I took this with the web cam a few weeks ago to "document" my incision ;) I've lost quite a bit of flab during the past year or so:

This summer, I am going to snorkel my ass off. Literally. :) By summer's end, I should be even thinner. (And yes, I have a submersible cervical collar. :D)

Damn, I really need to be in bed...why am I still up????

61. Recovery is happening slowly.
I'm tired a lot of the time and for some reason, I've been so overaroused lately I've had trouble sleeping at night...you know, when you're supposed to sleep. :) Some days I think the surgery will work; other days I think it won't. I still have nerve pain, but the surgeon said that may take months to go away.

Last year I taught myself to snorkel in Pinecrest Lake. I also snorkeled a bit in Cherry Lake, both of which are in my county. I would love to snorkel in the ocean, preferrably over a nice coral reef in a tropical zone. I'm waiting for the day...hope it comes. I would love to take swimming lessons so I know the proper strokes in case something ever goes wrong.

Yeah, the cat belongs to a neighbor of my mothers, but he comes by to mooch occasionally. He weighs 25 pounds...hehe...maybe even more now.

The birdy is my mine. :)
