4. That was probably one of the best openings for the Tonys..
In recent memory. Enjoyed Billy Crystal's coup attempt and the Jackman. Thought the song medley by Jackman was kinda annoying though..

Cool for Liev Schreiber's win!

I'm such a musical nerd! ;)

I hope this isn't all Spoilery for those of you on the west coast, but these awards for the musicals are just all over the place! I though Spamalot would wind up a shoo-in for all it's nominated catagories and it ain't happened so far... So, I think I'm going to bet on "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" to take Best Musical...

The music for "Light in the Piazza" is quite pretty, and that segment for "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" was great!

20. And that's why I'm surprised there are so few of us discussing the Tonys..
Here. DU has some very savvy and learned members (yes, even in the Lounge) so I thought this thread would get awfully crowded... Eh, maybe they're too glued to the tube to post! ;)

Well, I was pretty certain Sara Ramirez would win, but that was another win tallied up for the "Spelling Bee"... Hmmm...

Ah, "La Cage Aux Folles"! Now that's a show the fundies can get behind!

26. I'm a Broadway nut, too!
I love it! Every spare penny I have gets put away so I can get a ticket to a show, LOL! It's my only "vice" ... the only "luxury" item I ever buy for myself. :-)

Unfortunately, I suffer from chronic pain, so sitting through a show is really tough. I usually take a Vicodin just before the curtain goes up and I wear a TENS unit, which is an electro-nerve stimulator - that helps a bit. I'm flat on my back the next day but it is sooo worth it. :-)

But I really wish they'd go back to staging a scene from the nominated plays. I miss that.

Too funny... Getting James Earl Jones to read each lady's name!

I hope he comes back to Broadway soon. :-)

I saw Peter Allen at Radio City years ago and I couldn't believe how Jackman had all his mannerisms down pat - it was like watching Peter.

30. Wow... It won!
I don't think any musical has won Best Musical that hasn't won at least either Best Book or Best Score/Lyrics, but "Spamalot" did just that. I enjoyed the segment scene they played - I was rolling laughing when they had the guys waving the torches and one guy slam dancing to the mock overwrought ballad.

But if I were voting a Best Musical based solely on those segments, "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" would have been my choice. If I can scrape enough money together for a trip, I have got to go see these shows!!

And what was up with Bernadette Peters presenting the Best Actress in a Musical Tony? I thought last year's winner (Idina Menzel) was supposed to do that...

37. Yes, they are!
In fact, principle photography just ended a week ago. And I am soooo excitedly awaiting it's planned November release date! The trailer is supposed to be officially released tomorrow, but I downloaded a leaked version online last week. It looks incredible!!

Actually, IIRC, Idina Menzel was there last night, and she introduced a different segment toward the end of the second hour of the Tony broadcast (I think it was the lifetime achievement award). Then again, they may have altered who announces this year's winners because last year's Best Actor in a Musical was Hugh Jackman, who was hosting the show. That just occured to me...

32. Sara Ramirez is a goddess.
Anyone lucky enough to see her live has seen the next big Broadway star.

Tonight she can barely talk, but she flat nails one of the toughest cuts of the night.

Barbara who?
