"Daniel" by Elton John is about a kid whose brother dies in Viet Nam.
I remember reading the interview way back when.

Daniel is travelling tonight on a plane
I can see the red tail lights heading for spain
Oh and I can see daniel waving goodbye
God it looks like daniel, must be the clouds in my eyes

They say spain is pretty though I’ve never been
Well daniel says it’s the best place that he’s ever seen
Oh and he should know, he’s been there enough
Lord I miss daniel, oh I miss him so much

Daniel my brother you are older than me
Do you still feel the pain of the scars that won’t heal
Your eyes have died but you see more than i
Daniel you’re a star in the face of the sky

Daniel is travelling tonight on a plane
I can see the red tail lights heading for spain
Oh and I can see daniel waving goodbye
God it looks like daniel, must be the clouds in my eyes
Oh God it looks like daniel, must be the clouds in my eyes

7. I saw that one.
I'm trying to keep their memories and service alive and at the same time, point out how the evil ones will never pay their respect to them.

2. What? John/Taupin writing about things they know nothing about?!
Can't be true.

8. In Viet Nam?
I'm sorry, but Elton John has always been about whoring himself for a buck. He pens songs to settle bets, he recycles "sincere tributes" to his "closest friends", and he is generally less genuine than...than... a really artificial thing.

I'm always amazed by his success, because his material has all the depth and poignancy of a Hallmark card.

But then I remember that Hallmark has done fairly well peddling treacly sentiment, too.

3. I had a friend whose father died on a business trip to Boston
while we were in High School. His name was Daniel and I always associated that song with him because it was popular when he died.
