Yes, he was a suburbanite, BTW. It happened the night the Tigers won the World Series.

Gibson hit two monstrous home runs, a two run blast and then a tremendous three run upper deck shot to blow the game open. I was downtown in all the madness. At first it was fun and then started to quick escalate into a scary scene. We split before the serious, alcohol induced violence began.

4. I haven't heard of rioting in the city proper |

Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 10:37 PM by notadmblnd
since the 1967 riots. Now at some of the upscale college towns like Ann Arbor and East Lansing, that is another story.

13. And the Huey helicopters! |

I was a teen and my old man a firefighter in the middle of it. He couldn't get home for 6 days. We would make runs to the fire station and him bring clean clothes and other items.

It is the only city I have heard of that has a holiday dedicated to arson...google "Devil's Night."

unfair assessment of Detroit. The City of Detroit has not had a problem with Devils Night arson in quite a few years. Are there fires in the city? Is it possible for a fire to occur on Devils Night? Yes, but is the city ablaze annually? I think not!

16. Another Detroit success story - No 4th of July fireworks |
|
See, the city does not have enough money to provide police protection to an event put on by a private foundation. You can't make this stuff up.

18. The city council and the mayor |
|
Edited on Tue Jun-07-05 11:14 AM by notadmblnd
are playing a game of politics. City council wants to cut police and fire and the mayor says if that happens, the the city will not be safe for the fireworks because of the fear there will big outbreak of the blueflue (policeofficers protesting the cuts). But the mayor does not have the power to stop the fireworks and the city is going ahead with the plan to have them.
Have you learned nothing about the MSM and the lies and distortions yet?

19. Carbondale, IL had to shut down Halloween several years ago |
|
Because the students at SIU would start rioting on Halloween. Saw cop cars turned over one Halloween weekend when I was down there. Kids smashing through shops plate glass windows and looting, etc.
Eventually, the city and the university decided to enforce an additional school break over Halloween. Emptied the dorms and sent everyone home for a couple of days.
Don't know if they're still doing that or not.

14. About as many as were burned in Chicago when the Bulls won |
|
Burned by suburbanites on Rush street, BTW. They also turned over a cop car that night.
Detroit's not the only city that does this shit. It is the only city that seems to get shit on by people who've never bothered to actually go there. I grew up there, lived there for 27 years and go back to visit several times of years. It's a great city full of amazingly talented people.
