The spam conspiracy: or am I just paranoid? |
|
Okay. So I got this e-mail account that's on my own personal domain, unpublished and unGoogleable and used since 2001 for two things and two things only: an account on Amazon and an account on Barnes & Noble, with no orders to those merchants for about two years or so. It's not a name@domain that could be easily be extrapolated at random, and none of the other mail names (all my own) on the domain get spam and I don't have kids. But within the last few months, this e-mail address is getting crap like a hotmail account.
Q: Is it reasonable to assume that some weasel web clerk or questionable management at either Amazon or B&N is "lifting" and selling e-mail addresses? Or am I just talking through my tinfoil hat and maybe my male cat was looking at sites which would elicit Viagra and penis enhancer spam before he died last July???

1. It's a possibility :-) Unless someone you know used it for something. |

I was driving along and saw this 5-ton truck with SPAM and pictures of Spam Products all over it. I wonder, is it picking up wi-fis and spying?
