I like Nirvana, but I guess I'm more partial to the Foo because they're more my generation. I wasn't a teen when Nirvana first came out, I didn't learn to appreciate them until later. But yes, One By One is AWESOME! :D

9. Much more than i ever did Nirvana...

Kurt Cobain was an overrated one trick pony. Dave Grohl has proven himself not on a better songwriter who can write in a bunch of different styles, but a more interesting lyricist as well. Nirvana was little more than a well marketed, right place/right time band who rarely ventured past the quiet verse, loud chorus thing which was already well worn territory to anyone who had been paying attention, by the time they came out and hit it big. Dave Grohl can write something super pop like Big Me, or contemplative and indie rockish like Everlong or even any number of straight ahead hard rock tunes. And most importanly he seems fairly unpretentious and is just having a damn good time playing music and being a rock star.

You're definitely right about Dave's songwriting ability. I'd even say "Everlong" as compared to "Learn to Fly" (great song, but written for the pop audience). He's an awesome lyricist and I think the band appeals to a much larger audience than say, Nirvana. Most of their fan base is into the grunge/hard rock scene, which is fine, but you're not going to get a larger audience from that type of music.

But we can't forget Taylor. The man's awesome as well!
