MORBID THOUGHT IN MY HEAD THIS MORNING: Michael Jackson will die soon
especially if he's found guilty. If he doesn't kill himself before his sentencing, he'll never survive in prison.

sad. he used to be a great musician.

2. you know

3. He was a pretty good song and dance man/boy
John Coltrane, Vladimir Horowitz, Isaac Stern, Jimi Hendrix were great musicians. Michael was just an entertainment package, certainly inferior to Sam Cooke in the singing department and not the dancer that, say, Savion Glover is.

I'd say Michael Jackson is in the same sort of genre as Sammy Davis Jr.

16. You might not like his music
or think the style is that impressive, but he did write a large majority of it. Unlike some performers, Jackson actually understands music quite well, doesn't just sing and dance.

4. Years ago, I thought he wouldn't live to see 40.
I know we rag on Mike quite a bit around here, but the guy is pretty tragic. Comes a time, though, when an adult should realize they're not a kid anymore, and no money or fame will ever change that fact.

9. You're probably right.
But that's why we have therapy, and he can most definitely afford it.

13. I am not saying it excuses his excesses
but I think Joe Jackson left him emotionally/mentally crippled from a young age

12. I agree.
Being a full-time employee in the family business from the age of five, having a domineering, abusive father, and sharing a modest-sized house in poverty with 10 siblings is a recipe for disaster.

7. That's not morbid. It's hopeful.
If I never see the words "Michael Jackson on Trial" again, it'll be too soon.

And you KNOW if he's acquitted, it'll happen again.

8. Great musicians are often lousy human beings.
Just as Van Gogh was a terrible person when not painting, and just as John Belushi was a growling, self-hating coke addict when he wasn't being professionally funny.

Jackson has had many problems for a long time, and no one has been courageous or honest enough to tell him so. (The best book about him, if you can find it, is "Trapped: Michael Jackson and the Crossover Dream" by music critic Dave Marsh.)

In fact, Jackson has much in common with George Bush; he denies that anything he does is wrong, he tries to cover up his bad news with staged PR events, he wastes money on unessential things and he often makes statements of utter stupidity that show he believes in dangerously offensive principles. Also, both men deny their roots: Jackson denies that he's black, Bush denies that he's a Northeatern rich boy.

And neither Jackson nor Bush has produced anything of value for decades.

10. If Bush wants to quit politics to be a musician, that's fine by me.
Otherwise, I find no sympathy for him.

11. Biggest difference
MJ had his years in the Jackson 5 and several very good solo records to add some positives to his legacy

Bush has really nothing positive. Even Nixon and Reagan had some positives.

15. you're right.
i often wonder what w.'s childhood was really like, what with his mother being Barbara Bush. She certainly seems like the type of person who would be emotionally abusive at least. not that it would excuse w. for his many sins.

19. When did Michael Jackson deny he was black?
He has a skin disease called vertiglio (sp). His first nose operation came after a fall in the late '70s early '80s. Just because he wears makeup and has had plastic surgery does not mean he "denies" he's a black man.

anymore. He sounded really shaken too, and I thought he meant it.

17. I've thought it, too.
His health seems very fragile lately. Although you could call that a form of suicide, too, since he's responsible for most of the damage himself.

20. Michael should have had therapy long, long ago
Unfortunately his religious backround (Jehovah Witness), lack of education and being surrounded by people who were afraid to say no to him his entire adult life did nothing to encourage him to seek help for his problems.

22. i remember seeing a thing on CNN about him
where he visited the British House of Commons. They have a strict rule that only MPs may sit on the benches. what does michael jackson do? well, he goes ahead and sits down.

you're right, nobody close to him ever called him out on his shit, and as a result, he thinks rules don't apply to him

21. I would be ecstatic if I never saw an MJ story again...
All of the 'celebrity' news should be tossed into a hole and forgotten.

Jackson, whether guilty of the charges presented, is a sick individual. The where-with-all of how he got that way is a convoluted story, we only see and hear the larger story...how this individual became so screwed up will always be under wraps.

I know one thing, AFAIC, if Jackson fell off the earth tomorrow, I would not care. I think the guy goes way beyond eccentric and is truly insane.

23. I agree with ya ...
Even if he is only convicted on the less charges, I can't see him coming out of prison alive.

This volcano called his life has been waiting to blow for years.
