The Things We Do For Love
Ahhhh, 1970's Brit-pop. 10cc was a brief hit sometime in the mid-70's. The only album that I distinctly remember was the one that this hit came from, "Deceptive Bends". It had a cool cover on it, as I remember. They were light an' poppy summertime fun.

Too many broken hearts have fallen in the river
Too many lonely souls have drifted out to sea,
You lay your bets and then you pay the price
The things we do for love, the things we do for love.
Communication is the problem to the answer
You've got her number and your hand is on the phone
The weather's turned and all the lines are down
The things we do for love, the things we do for love.
Like walking in the rain and the snow
When there's nowhere to go
And you're feelin' like a part of you is dying
And you're looking for the answer in her eyes.
You think you're gonna break up
Then she says she wants to make up.

1. Thank you!
I desperately needed an alternate ear worm thanks to Kick Ass Bob.

2. Ah yes! Many a soft rock station plays that. nt
There is a lot of mindless pablum to be mined from the late '70s and early '80s. And when I say "mindless pablum," I do not mean it it bad...it is just mindless fluff floating through our minds.

Remember Mungo Jerry?

Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh

In the summertime when the weather is hot
You can stretch right up and touch the sky
When the weather's fine
You got women, you got women on your mind
Have a drink, have a drive
Go out and see what you can find

If her daddy's rich take her out for a meal
If her daddy's poor just do what you feel
Speed along the lane
Do a ton or a ton an' twenty-five
When the sun goes down
You can make it, make it good in a lay-by

We're no threat, people
We're not dirty, we're not mean
We love everybody but we do as we please
When the weather's fine
We go fishin' or go swimmin' in the sea
We're always happy
Life's for livin' yeah, that's our philosophy

Sing along with us
Dee dee dee-dee dee
Dah dah dah-dah dah
Yeah we're hap-happy
Dah dah-dah
Dee-dah-do dee-dah-do dah-do-dah
Dah-do-dah-dah-dah
Dah-dah-dah do-dah-dah

Alright ah
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh

When the winter's here, yeah it's party time
Bring your bottle, wear your bright clothes
It'll soon be summertime
And we'll sing again
We'll go drivin' or maybe we'll settle down
If she's rich, if she's nice
Bring your friends and we'll all go into town

Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh

5. Great band, but they were never as good after Godley and Creme left
They were never as popular here, but even so had a few hits:

"I'm Not in Love", "Wall Street Shuffle" and the one you mentioned were the biggest. "Dreadlock Holiday" is in the sountrack for "Snatch", and pretty prominently featured in the picture.

The four original guys had so much talent among them that it was amazing. Graham Gouldman wrote many of the Hollies' hits, including "Bus Stop". Eric Stewart and Lol Creme were phenomenal guitar players and each had a great voice, as did Gouldman. Godley's percussion is incredible.

The Godley/Creme albums that came after they left are absolute classics.
