1. One easy and cheap way is to use blogspot?
But there are a number of places that will let you set up your own website, if memory serves.

2. blogger, other
you can try Blogger or you purchase a program like Dreamweaver. HTML is the language behind websites. It is not too hard to pickup but it depends on your needs.

4. The simplest, easiest way...

is to do something nice in Word or WordPerfect and then have the word processor convert it directly to html.

Then, upload the page thusly created to the free web space your ISP probably gives you.

However, if you want to actually sell stuff, you need a webhosting account, a merchant account, and your own domain name.

www.godaddy.com can do it all for you at reasonable prices, and, like most webhosts, they have simple templates already set up so you can get a site online quickly.

As far as search engines go, there's a lot of discussion about just how to show up on the first page or two when someone does a search. Later for that, and later for the guaranteed way-- which is to buy advertising space on Google.

on edit--

setting up a site is fairly easy, but setting up a GOOD site isn't. You will have to do a little studying on website design, marketing, etc.
