"You're against the war? So, that means you're against the troops?" |
|
Don't you just love this idiotic logic? I had a discussion with my neighbor about the war in Iraq, and I told him how I felt about it....everything, and when I told him that this war was based on lies and our troops don't belong there he flipped out on me. Well, I flipped out on him and made several points that seemed to shut his stupid pie-hole. I asked him if he thought it a tad strange that after looking for Bin Laden in the mountains of Afghanistan for, oh, nine months, and when he couldn't be found that there was this miraculous discovery of WMD in Iraq, not to mention Saddam's supposed ties to Al Queda. Well, no WMD's were found (stupid look on his face followed this, quite amusing) It has pretty much been established that Saddam and Al Queda were not collaberating in terror efforts. So, wouldn't it make perfect sense for us to go after a known enemy (like Iraq) who caused us trouble in the past? Theres one way to pull the wool over America's eyes!:sarcasm: When he told me that I must be against the troops, I pretty much told him "Well, if that means wanting them back home with their families instead of getting killed in a war based on lies, then....uh...sure, I'm against the troops, whatever dicknose"

1. Yeah, this is not like past wars. |
|
The Gulf War, Kosovo War, the Korean War, World War II, World War I, The Civil War and the Revolutionary War were all OK.

2. I have a friend that said that |
|
Her son joined the Army and I have been nothing but supportive, positive and proud of his service and what he did. She read me a letter from him a week or so ago and I said something along the lines that the war has become a clusterfuck. She flipped out on me and said that I am saying things against her son. I tried to explain that the war and the troops are two different things, but she wanted no part of it. She just doesn't get it. That is typical of the repugs though and I hear that over and over. I think they really believe that, but then again, they think that georgie is one of the best leaders of all time. It;s impossible to have an intelligent conversation with these people.

5. The thing about Bush supporters - |
|
and I hesitate to just say "republicans" because these Bush cultists are an entirely new breed - is that they are very simplistic thinkers.
Most of us are capable of understanding, for instance - that US foreign policy is what contributes to animosity against us in the world, and spurs things like 9/11 to happen while *at the same* time not excusing the actions of terrorists. That's WAY too complicated for members of the Bush Cult - and will indeed cause their heads to explode.
That's but one of MANY examples - but I don't need to spell it out any further - I'm amongst intelligent DUers, after all. ;)

I agree that while all Bushmen are Republicans, not all Republicans are Bushmen. These guys are the first, real American fascists. Unlike Sen Joe McCarthy, who was a paranoid drunk, these are clever and well-financed opportunists who have plotted for 20 years to seize power. I suppose one could compare them to the Communists who sheltered in the Democratic party in the 1930, except for the fact that the Reds were pushing a fundamentally alien ideology that few outside of the FBI took seriously. Bush & Co are, in the words of H. Rap Brown, "as American as cherry pie."

6. I wonder if, heaven forbid , something happened to her son |
|
would she feel the same way? How supportive of the war would she be then? My gut tells me that when the shoe is on the other foot, she won't support it one bit...but then again, that's just my gut talking.

9. She supported the war at first |
|
Then she said she wanted the kids home. Then when her son joined she got into a "against the war against the troops" mode. I hope and pray that nothing happens to her son, but I think she would be one to say something like "he did that for you so you can be free". I did hate when Saddam kept us Americans caged. :eyes:

3. How could I be against the War? |
|
It ended long ago with *'s "Mission Accomplished" grandstand on an aircraft carrier. Right?
So I'm against whatever the current occupation is called. So what is it? a sleep over? Are the troops just crashing on Iraqi's couches until they can get their shit together?

4. That's right, The War was over last yr. |
|
We brought them freedom and they just don't know what to do with it so we're just busy wiping out the last thresh-holds of insurgency and continuing to turn corners.
I support the troops, that's why I want them to come home and end the occupation.

13. This logic (or lack of same) drives me nuts |
|
How is it "against the troops" to feel angry that they're risking and losing their lives for a pack of lies? :wtf:
I have nothing but the utmost respect for the people who are willing to put their lives on the line, leave their families, go to a hostile environment and risk everything for their nation's defence. That said, I think their nation OWES them the knowledge that the cause they are fighting for is just and that it is based on solid intelligence as well as coming as a last resort measure. None of that describes Iraq.
I think those who are willing to send this country's sons and daughters off to war for a lie are the ones who are against the troops.
