hostess gift ideas -- no flowers...
Is it okay to give a bottle of wine to someone if you don't know if they drink?

Other ideas?

thanks

1. I think that's a fine, best-all-around hostess gift.
Wine is our "catch-all" hostess gift. If the hostess doesn't personally drink, she'll probably appreciate having a nice bottle of wine available for guests. :hi:

2. I would think it would be okay, but maybe a small houseplant in
a nice little pot instead, just in case they're teetotallers?

3. Not sure what kind of event...
....you are attending and do not know your host/hostess, so this may not fit, but IMO things like scented candles are always nice. Just make sure your host or hostess does NOT have allergies. I was at a friend's house last night and she had a new candle - carrot cake scent. It was wonderful! I am not much of a drinker and I would sure like that candle over a bottle of wine!

7. engagement party
and it's today, so while your idea is lovely, I think it's not an option. Now, if I had planned ahead I would get a nice candle! Great idea for the future. Thanks, Hepburn. :hi:

5. Why no flowers?
There's nothing I love more, personally.

11. I don't drink, and people give us bottles of wine all the time.
I appreciate it, because we're not up on the latest in the wine world, and we can serve it to our guests.
