2. Better than Bush? Any one of them, and...

Any one of them would be better than Bush.

And you can add choices like "A Tree", and "A Rock", and THEY'D make a better president, too.

6. NOT better than Bush?? Please explain.
Any of these real Americans would have been better than Bush, in my humble opinion. Which one would have been worse? Let's hear some analysis.

8. The question is which would be the best Pres.
It goes without question that all of them would be better than the Monkey-King.

10. no no
I meant, I'm not COMPARING them to Bush. I was asking between the Dems who lost their races, who would have eventually turned out to have been the best president.

17. Tend to agree about HHH.
BTW, Gore was NOT the runner-up, being the winner...

But Humphrey would have continued the Great Society, and who knows what a difference that would have made? One thing, though, could he have ended the war during his first term???

9. Ed Muskie
A class act, done in by RMN's dirty tricks squad, when he ran for president. He almost won it for HHH; another week, and Nixon was toast.

12. It is impossible to calculate how different our world would be if McGovern
had won. In 1972, truly progressive ideas and the path of peace, were much more mainstream than they are today. Congress was solidly Democratic. McGovern could have made some real progress. Instead we had Nixon, the Watergate coverup and the ensuing disillusionment of the populace.

14. They all would've been better
However, I've got to go with Mondale (Minnesota Pride). However, HHH would've been terrific in 1968, Gore would've been just fantastic in 2000.

16. Any candidate that ran that was from MN...
I mean, look at all who ran - Mondale, Humphrey...hell, even Wellstone was in the primaries once, I think...but still, they all would have made great presidents

19. Mondale
especially at that period in time he could have stopped the raygun excesses, what has come after never would have been. :-(

20. I'll go with California Governor Jerry Brown
The Governor was definitely ahead of his time with his alternative energy plans. I liked the way he decided to run for Mayor of Oakland long after he was governor--the city needed help.

21. Gore might not have prevented 9/11...
but he wouldn't have turned the entire world against us, he wouldn't have done Iraq, and he would have done a far better job tracking down al Queda.

He lacked people skills, and the ability to cry on cue, but he was smarter than Bush and Cheney put together. And he understood the big picture better than either Clinton or the dupes who replaced him.

And, while I'm at it, it would have been infinitely better to have a first lady who's an advocate for increased access to mental health care instead of one with a husband who clearly needs his head examined!
