Thoughts on women in rap videos... |
|
This 50 Cent thread reminded me of last night when I was watching a Nelly video on BET (don't ask why) and it was called "Tip Drill".....WOW. If you haven't seen it, look it up online. And it got me thinking about women in rap videos shaking their asses all over the place and letting wealthy rap artists slide their credit cards through their butt cheeks (yes, he really does that in the video). Do you think it is degrading to women to do this or is it women's choices to do this (so long as they're of legal age)? Just curious what this crowd thinks about this.

But women choose to do things to degrade themselves all the time and I don't expect that to change anytime soon.

2. So is it the rap artists's fault for exploiting women? |
|
Or the women's fault for degrading themselves or allowing themselves to be exploited (did that make sense)?

4. I find it incredibly depressing to see such things... |
|
The sole power women have had through the centuries is their sexuality. The women's movement allowed women full power through voting, education, employment, and voice.
Unfortunately, too many women refuse to move beyond that old power structure. And as long as there are women who do that, men's overall attitudes about women will never change.

5. I think music and sexuality |
|
have always gone hand in hand, but seeing women as commodities (and no, it's nothing new - you could say the rappers are commodities as well) sickens me. Like women are nothing but their bodies...
so I always cringe when I see those videos, but I guess the women in the rock videos are just as bad, but not quite as blatant....
