It's time to play: How the hell did I do this to my ankle? |
|
(Mods: I'm not asking for medical advice, just bitching.)
So, I was walking along a brick-type sidewalk in Milwaukee's Fashionable East Side Wednesday, when suddenly my body stepped forward but my left leg did not. My shoe (a not-very-high-heeled sandal) got stuck in between the bricks. Hurt like hell in the instant, but I didn't think anything of it -- I'm somewhat of a klutz, and twisted ankles are standard for me.
Well, yesterday, I could barely walk on the damn thing. It's swollen (though thankfully not purple) and stiff. I've got an ace bandage on it, and I'm limping profusely now. It's fun explaining this:
Me: "Oh, I sprained my ankle while...rock climbing. Rescuing a cat from a tree. Donating bone marrow." Co-worker: "Um, yeah. What really happened?" Me: "I tripped while walking down the street."
Oooow.

*Somebody's* gonna have to keep an eye on the little ones, so we all can't be actively grilling.
I'll probably be putting together some side dishes or something before you guys get there.

Sounds like when my wife got a hairline fracture in her ankle, doing something very similar to what you did. We were just walking down the sidewalk when she sort of stumbled and caught her foot. If the swelling doesn't go down soon, get to a doctor!

I've had fractures before, and this doesn't feel like one (and besides -- if I do have one, they'll wrap it up and tell me to stay off of it, which is exactly what I'm doing). But if it keeps up, I'll hit the clinic.

5. I twisted my ankle a couple months ago. |

I was walking my dog and I stepped on an uneven part of the sidewalk. OWWWWW. That hurts! I hope it feels better soon!

you will probably get crutches which help with mobility. Don't forget to ice it. Bags of frozen peas are very helpful for this as they are "form fitting".

I am and I've always been accident prone. let me tell you about my latest couple of tricks.. this past Monday I'm driving home after a great day, I pull into my driveway and go to step on the break and my shoe is caught on the floor mat. Needless to say I wercked my car and took down the garage door. It's still laying on the floor in the garage waiting for the insurance guy to come out (should happen today). then last week I'm trying to stain the inside of the gazebo that covers our hottub. I had put a couple of 2x4's across the top of the tub so I could safely crawl to the middle and get the top. well as I'm backing off the 2x4 after finishing, I go to put my foot on the step only the step is not there. Naturally I go down on my butt, but not before I scrape the back of my leg all to hell I also had a wonderful bruise on my arm from trying to catch myself. Oh, and then there was the time a few weeks ago where I was walking down the sidewalk to my sons school. I stepped on a wood chip and went crashing to my knees if front of an entire parking lot full of parents. I've broken my right arm twice, cracked my head open three times and have broken most fingers at one time ot the other. Last time it was 3 at once when I tried to close my diningroom window.
I just don't know why it's so hard for me, does a dark cloud follow me? Is it because I'm left handed or am I just a klutz?

10. I'm right-handed, and less klutzy than I used to be... |
|
...but occasionally I'll injure myself just sitting here at work.

I've twisted ankles walking along a flat, dry, even stretch of sidewalk.
A couple have been really nasty sprains.
If it doesn't improve soon, definitely see a doctor. Hopefully, it won't be that serious, though.

12. Don't feel bad.............I broke mine in the line of duty. |
|
It sounds like something, "line of duty", well yeah I was on-duty. But what happened? Well, we were on this call and....yeah hold on...there was nothing there except some drunks....yeah. Well, what happened? Okay we were leaving and I slipped on some snow covered steps...snap, crackle & pop.
I am just finishing physical therapy for it and now they have to start doing something about my back and right leg. Plates & screws in the left ankle & leg...Lord knows what yet for the back.
So I know how you feel.

13. My husband slipped on ice and broke his ankle last Dec. |
|
and didn't go to the Dr. for two weeks because he thought it was a bad sprain. It's worth an x-ray for your peace of mind if nothing else :-).
