Another rant about Walmart |
|
My daughter had her birthday party yesterday. We had decided the theme months ago-Shrek (since she loves that movie and it could work for both boys and girls). We had originally placed the cake order w/ a local baker. She called about three days before and stated that she had an out of town emergency and could not do the cake. She gladly returned my money immediately and I went around town trying to find a place that would make a Shrek cake. The only place that still did Shrek cakes was the local Walmart supercenter so I placed my order. Here is where my rant begins. They quoted me the price of $19.95 for a half chocolate sheet cake. I stated exactly what I wanted (the design, the writing, etc) and it still totalled up to $19.95. This was a few days ago. When I picked up the cake on Saturday morning they were late to finish it (over an hour and they were informed of the time that it had to be complete by). Then they rang up the total: $35.99 for the cake. We might as well call this double the price that they quoted me! I told them that was not the price that was quoted and they said "Well, if you want the cake that's the price." I had to borrow the extra money from a friend just to pay for the cake. If there had been any more time I would have told them to forget it (but the party was in 40 minutes). I filed a complaint online and also plan to call corporate on Monday morning. Another reason to dislike Walmart.

2. I wanted to but she was really looking forward to the Shrek |

cake. The original one was really nice-the woman bakes cakes out of her home and does a wonderful job. She had made one in the past and had a picture of it. This was poorly made along w/ them overcharging me.

7. Don't just stop with complaint to the company |
|
Write LTTE
Maybe include something along the line of if Wal-Mart hadn't come in there would had been more bakers that could had done the job.

Most of the bakers that Walmart hires have no previous experience. They do a poor job of decorating, consisting of a few doodles and maybe a plastic figurine. Yet most others who try to bake in this town are run out of business because of Walmart's prices. In the end, we tend to receive poor quality.

The only bright side would be that you do have is that you do have avenues for filing complaints and maybe getting some satisfaction. The way you were treated was just plain wrong.
Happy Birthday to your daughter!

Another mom at the party told me the same thing. She went there a month ago for a birthday cake. They quoted her the same price. She went to pick it up and they told her $30. I was at that party and saw the cake (Dora the Explorer). I could have bought a figurine out of the toy section, made a cake, stuck the toy on there and it would have probably have been better than what they sold her.

5. Sounds like that store has some problems |
|
with their bakery staff. I'm sure even Walmart would love to know about it. Some people should just not deal with the public and this bakery person seems to be one of them.
