One great reason I love Dodger Stadium |
|
It doesn't have a CORPORATE ADVERTISING NAME like nearly every other park in baseball these days. Being named for the team seems quaint and outmoded, and I like it that way. Maveric's thread got me thinking... even parks with great food and good teams have LOUSY NAMES. So for you fans with teams playing in Corporate Billboard Park, what would you rename your stadium? Or would you give it its old name back?

3. P.K. Wrigley was the owner of the Cubs |
|
AND the owner of the chewing gum company. It's the only acceptable loophole. Now that the Tribune Company owns the Cubs, at least they didn't commit sacrilege and rename it TribPark or whatever.
So Wrigley is corporate, but at least it was HIS name, and not some faceless corporate name like Comerica Park, or some such nonsense.

2. I've only been to Dodger Stadium once |
|
But it was great. Very '50s. The Dodger Dogs...well, they didn't live up to the legend. But the best part was Doogie Hauser was sitting two rows behind me, wasting away an afternoon like any other shmoe.

|
Built in 1962. :-) So yes, it does come by that atmosphere honestly.

you mean the park that has an 8-foot tall 180° electronic billboard between levels, with advertisements flashing NONSTOP throughout the game?
They can call it anything they want if they'd lose that, and $5 crappy hot dogs and $8 beer. Sheesh, for a second I thought you were talking about the one in LA...

The only ballpark free of excessive advertising features ivy-covered brick walls in the outfield, and we all know where that is.
Besides, beer and hot dogs cost that much everywhere, which is why I RARELY eat inside the park unless I bring my own.

favorite places to go. I have gone to games since day one and, IMO, there is no other ballpark that can match it's beauty. The San Gabriel Mountains on one side and downtown on the other. Set on a 300-acre hill surrounded by thousands of trees and sunsets that turn the mountains purple...must be seen to be believed. And it has one other gem that cannot be matched, Vin Scully. I finally had the chance to meet him in 1989 and get an autograph which I cherish to this day. I also have the album Dodgers '59 ("We go to Chicago!") that was passed to me by my parents.
