I took my son to see "Howl's Moving Castle" yesterday
It was his first movie ever!!! It was very exciting and he really liked it (as did my wife and I).

I'm SOOOOOOOOOO glad I got to take him to a Miyazaki movie as his first theatre experience rather than a Disney or DreamWorks production. I could have done without Billy Crystal voicing Calcifer, but even that I got used to. (I can't stand Hollywood actors playing voices in animated films, particularly the comic roles)

All in all the film wasn't as good as Miyazaki's best films (Laputa, Spirited Away, Naussica), but it was great fun. There were some parts that would be too disturbing for a lot of 3 year olds, and lots that they won't understand.

:)

1. It isn't out here yet, but I'm looking forward to it.
Celebrity voice overs in animation is a pet peeve of mine. Especially when it's just some talentless sex symbol- Brad Pitt or Catherine Zeta-Jones. Who goes to their movies to hear their voices? Occasionally a celebrity will make a fantastic voice actor, e.g. Ellen Degeneres in Finding Nemo.

3. I'm glad I'm not the only one!
I also agree on Ellen Degeneres; I think she did a great job in Finding Nemo, even though I could recognize her voice.

Anyway, there are real voice actors with incredible talent (Billy West for example) so it seems absurd to hire someone that people will recognize.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the film!

6. Agreed, even when I sometimes get bored with a story
which is rare, the depth of his imagination visually just blows me away.

4. Very good film in my opinion
I saw the subtitled version, so that's my take.

5. I can't wait to see it subtitled
I bet the sticky parts make more sense. The scarecrow's enchantment was kinda poorly explained in the dubbed version.
