Did anybody here go to college at any of these places? |

Cornell COLLEGE (not university) Gustavus Adolphus College
These are my two top choices for college right now- I'm going to be a senior next year in high school. I really want to go to Carleton, but thats 40K a year and too selective.
If you went to either of these schools, tell me what you thought!
I'm really excited for college- I think I will do a double major in American History and Political Science and get into some sort of journalism.

8. I'd say that our view of St. Peter was very compromised... |
|
by having to spend large amounts of that time at places like Merle's house and Whiskey river.

5. Yeah... Carleton is pretty much a nerd school. |
|
Ultimate Frisbee is the #1 sport there. They also had the first metric American football game ever there.
I want to go there!!

7. We've just been through the college application process |
|
with my son. Allow me to offer some words of advice:
Don't let the cost of the school intimidate you -- funding is out there and it is not all scholarship based. Many of these expensive, private schools have mega-bucks in grants available, money that is given out based solely on financial need.
If your grades are good and you've had a good high school career with involvement in extracurriculars, community service, etc. apply to all the colleges of your choice. Every school's admission process is different so you don't know what might cause them to accept you.
My son will be attending Davidson College in NC this fall. It's one of the top 10 liberal arts schools in the country. Total cost is 39K. He's getting a grant package worth $31K.
Reach for the stars; you might be surprised at what you get. Oh, and be sure to apply to a few backup schools as well, just in case.
Good luck.

I don't know how to say it exactly, but I don't have much need... my family could concieveably afford Carleton but 40K is still lots of money.
Also, Carelton is out of my range because my grades aren't spectacular. My freshman and sophomore years were really shaky but my Junior year was very good and I excelled in lots of tough classes. Next year I loaded up on hard english and social studies classes that I will be good at.
I also got a 29 on the ACT with a 12/12 on the writing portion. That is about the only real selling point I have right now. My extracurriculars are basically limited to an ungodly amount of band and school newspaper writing. My GPA hovers a little below the 3.4 range, mainly because I suck at math and science... really badly.
thanks for the advice, though!

12. For some reason Gustavus recruited me extensively when... |
|
I graduated from HS years and years ago.
All of the pamphlets they sent looked intriguing.
I ended up going somewhere else... But, I always wondered why they picked me out of the people I knew.
I even remember reading a blurb about Gustavus Adolphus (the guy).

15. I went to a State University. |
|
There was a technical program I was interested in and the price was right.
This was way before the plethora of lottery scholarships became available.
It had nothing to do with G.A.

16. You might want to take a look at... |
|
Lawrence University and Conservatory of Music in Appleton Wisconsin. It's application process is 'needs' blind. It is a residential college in that almost all students live on campus.
It is conveniently located between the Twin Cities and Chicago.
My son graduated from Lawrence last year with a BM in Horn Performance. Now working and living in Chicago.
