Those sinister Simpsons

According to Groening, Fox took exception to a Simpsons' version of the Fox News rolling news ticker which parodied the channel's anti-Democrat stance, with headlines like "Do Democrats Cause Cancer?"

"Fox fought against it and said they would sue the show," Groening said.

"We called their bluff because we didn't think Rupert Murdoch would pay for Fox to sue itself. So, we got away with it."

2. And Faux instituted a new rule:
No more crawlers allowed! What are they afraid of? Would actually have loved to see them sue themselves - bunch of bozos.

3. Does this mean Faux won't use crawlers?
<"Now Fox has a new rule that we can't do those little fake news crawls on the bottom of the screen in a cartoon because it might confuse the viewers into thinking it's real news," he said.>

5. Better explanation -
thank you - meant to say the rule referred to the cartoon. But you have to laugh at the fact that Faux admitted their viewers are stupid:)

4. Groening
was interviewed by Terry Gross, on NPR's Fresh Air, that's where this info came from (at least that's where I heard it); great interview.

7. The Simpsons have always been liberal
http://www.jdavidchadwick.com/2003columns/gore_simpson

The Simpsons have always been pro-Democrat, they have just been showing it alot more since Bush got elected (or selected, which ever you prefer.)

If you go back and watch all the old episodes on DVD, you'll see all the subtle pro-liberal, anti-conservative jokes in almost every episode.

There is one joke, though, that Kelsey Grammer (a republican) made as Sideshow Bob: "You can't keep the democrats out of the White House forever. And when they get it, I'm back on the streets with all my criminal buddies!"

9. Really?
The show's struck me more as being more libertarian even though it does have an anti-conservative bias.
