Obscure Movie Trivia Question...
In an Academy Award winning film, a major actress said...

"The calla lilies are in bloom again..."

Many years earlier, the same actress uttered the line "the calla lilies are in bloom again. Such a strange flower, suitable for any occasion".

Name the actress and both movies.

First prize....A week in Crawford Texas
Second Prize...Two weeks in Crawford Texas

4. Yes, it was definitely Katherine Hepburn...
That magnificent voice quivering "the calla lilies are in bloom again" I can almost hear her saying it.

You CAN hear her quavering voice delivering the line here.

ON EDIT: Those pages have some wonderful quotes. I love this one:

"Of course he has a knife, he always has a knife, we all have knives! It's 1183 and we're all barbarians!" --as Eleanor of Aquitaine in THE LION IN WINTER (1968).

6. The first of the movies . . .
Was one from the mid 30's in which Hepburn is an aspiring actress living in a boarding house full of other aspiring actresses. At first, she's absolutely terrible at acting -- and the calla lilly line is to show just how stiff and awful she is. But after another would-be actress dies tragically, she suddenly "gets it" and becomes wildly successful.

Looking in IMDB, I'd say that movie has to be "Stage Door" (1937).

For the second, I'd guess "On Golden Pond," though I haven't seen it to know for sure.

And it only took 11 minutes! Stage Door is a flawless chance to see some wonderful actresses at work.

Can't believe you got On Golden Pond without ever seeing it. Its not a great movie, but its worth your time.

Your coupon for the Econo-lodge in Crawford is on the way via Pony Express! Enjoy!

8. Wait--a correction--I"M the winner!
Kate originally said it in the movie Morning Glory, for which she won her first Oscar, then she said it in Stage Door, a great movie with Ginger Rogers, Ever Arden and Lucy. There was a talk of a sequel in the mid-80's while all were still alive--really wish they had done that.
